All you need to investigate is the lawyer’s (and/or Law Office’s) shredder - or perhaps the dumpster behind the office.
As you said - No surprise other than it took this long - must be a set trial date looming.

See, the computers that need to be stolen would be the prosecuting attorneys’. Does no good to steal the defendant’s evidence. Plus you’d need the original recordings. Might delay things until the prosecutors could share evidence again with the defendant.
At least, that’s what I would assume.
