The quote is a clue. If you could see the side of the SPAD behind him, it would have a hat in a ring painted on it; another clue. This lion of the air kept a lion as a pet. Before his death he taught Rickenbacker how to be a fighter pilot. He is buried here but his name is not on this side of the monument, probably because the French considered him one of theirs as he was born there, but he was an American.
Not that I’m trying to be mysterious, I just thought it was a great expression, and I wanted to find some use for it.
