  1. I would have thought that would have electrocuted himself in the bathtub, like his drug saturated Samoan lawyer attempted to do in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. Hunter threw a grapefruit in the tub when “White Rabbit” by the “Jefferson Airplane” was reaching it’s peak. The Samoan didn’t know he wasn’t dead until the next morning. Maybe Hunter will wake up.

  2. Had a more than a few with Gonzo long
ago. He was as insane as you might assume.
I think it was his reputation that he just
couldn’t stand. Being relegated to the
sports page was more than bearable. And any
body who’s spent time in Aspen and those
environs ... well ... their souls are sucked
out after a couple of years. He did many
    years there.

Tis a sad day. RIP, you @#$&%^ maniac.

  3. We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold....One toke over the line? wait till he sees those goddam bats.....our room looked like the results of some disastrous experiment involving whiskey and gorillas....Woodstock Uber Alles....

From memory & not perfect, maybe.  Never saw the movie, my son, a fellow-fan of the book, saw it & gave me a wave-off.

  5. while remembering the late author lets remember that by choosing to give himself lead poisoning he chose to give his family and friends pain and misery.
Suicide is the act of a selfish person-NOT of a victim.
*Recovering former"victim" jumps down from soapbox*

  6. When others imitated his style, and sounded like juvenile wise-asses, you realized how much skill was involved in his writing. Other reporters, those MSM reporters covering the campaign, you wanted to ask them, “What was it really like?” With Hunter, you didn’t have to.  He reminded me sometimes, that life is fun.  Sometimes.  sick

And Barb is right. Words addressed to the living: suicide is the ultimate child abuse, and may not be the escape you think it is.  But things happen to us beyond our control and responsibility. Sickness and depression.
