New board game

  1. Chris, you don’t know what a pain in the ass that is. I did some of it last year. To condense posts from 3 similar categories into 1 new one is lots of work. Each post has to be gone through and the new category added and the old category deleted.

We have thousands of posts here.

If you have ideas for new categories, let me know and I’ll add them.

  2. Perhaps we can agree to jettison some obsolete ones, to start?

  3. jettison some obsolete ones

Same thought here Cris but Drew is right.

Man oh man you wouldn’t believe how much is involved. Things under this particular hood are a bit complicated. Least I think so.

Add updated cats. Yeah. Any suggestions?

Deleting old ones and unused ones great idea and Drew and I started doing that last year BUT, as Drew points out. What a pain. I’ll add the word MAJOR to pain and you get the idea.

I originally thought merely hitting delete on a category would do it but ... apparently not.

Hmmm. Obviously I don’t or I wouldn’t have suggested it. Sorry.

On my own blog––and don’t bother looking for it, there’s nothing there now. I’m saving it for when I retire and can rant like OldCatMan––it’s easy. You pretty much just hit delete. Any post that used that category then defaults to the ‘General’ category. But I use Wordpress. I don’t remember what BMEWS is using. The Skipper told me once. He also told me it wasn’t a freebie like Wordpress.

Nothin’ to be sorry for. You’d have no way of knowing unless someone mentioned it.
But you’re still correct. There are things there that should come out. Wish it were as easy as what you have.
What are your suggestions for new categories?

Drew .... It’s been over a year and I can not recall what we did. What might happen by just deleting posts at random?  I mean, do we need old ones anyway? My memory for detail is crap I am most sorry to say. Hell, my memory of yesterdays lunch is history and forgotten.
I remember seeing, as you said, thousands of posts and comments as well if I recall correctly.

I think you once said we couldn’t delete indiscriminately. (?) I can’t recall why however.

What might happen if we just went in and killed off everything except for the last week? Or month? And then simply started again with newer cats and a few of the old ones?
I think as well that I need to stop filing under too many categories even if it seems logical at the time of posting. That might help for future deletes. One thing I do remember is that we both agreed we had a lot of categories and some unused. You wanted to make things easier and I think you were right.

  6. What are your suggestions for new categories?

Don’t do new categories. Pare down the current list.

My first suggestion would be that the three of us (and anybody else currently authorized to post? Is Mr. Christian still an admin?) make up separate lists using the current categories. Categories on all three lists are automatically kept. Categories that don’t make any of our lists are deleted. Such categories are not being used.

That would leave those categories that only one or two of us like. Oh well. We’ll deal with them later. Repeat this next year.

    It’s a start!?

As for new categories? I’m still thinking. My thoughts are running to NOT using current events as categories unless an easy way to delete them later is found. No ‘Charlie Sheen’ category, for instance. That could become ‘Insane Hollywood Celebrities’, but that’s redundant.
