Government takes on powerful new role as playground bully.
Drew, please tell me it’s just another gag article. If we’re getting this from the Republicans, what would the Hildebeast, Obama, or any of the rest be like?
Sorry Doc, this one is real as far as I can tell. There isn’t much out on the web about it, not yet anyway, but the sites carrying the story seem legit. Sure, I wish it was The Onion running it, but no.
Hi Guys,
I’m pretty sure Peiper’s right about the insurance companies, but I think there’s one more factor involved. The government in general wants the populace to become accustomed to following orders and not making individual decisions. When I call liberals and progressives neo fascists, I’m quite serious. Actually calling them communists dirties the name of communism. Yes, I know it’s dirty enough by itself, but at least communism is based on an ideal of comfort for everyone. Either way, we are dealing with a system that wants people to take orders and not question authority.
Power To The People!
That phrase isn’t for lefties, it’s for anyone who believes in freedom. Now you know why the left had an attraction for me 40 years ago and you also know why I’ve broken with them and am considered a rightie, at least by local standards. I began with an ideal of freedom and I’ve never wavered. If that led me from one side of the political spectrum to the other, so be it.
In truth though, I really think the spectrum has shifted much more than I have. 40 years ago being a conservative meant that you were likely to support people like George Wallace and Lester Maddox. I can’t imagine anyone I’ve met at BMEWS supporting racial discrimination in any form. That’s how much the political spectrum has shifted. There are many other factors involved, but the racial issue is a lot more clear cut than the Goldwater campaign and how he was smeared or the issues around loyalty oaths or any of the other defining liberal/conservative choices of the 60’s. In many ways the definitions of liberal and conservative have changed a lot over time.
Gee another useless goverment program that once got going will never die. The only problem is the other 9,999,999,999,999,999,999 useless programs just like it that will also never die. (Until the country goes totally bankrupt)
Looking at Health & Human Services, Headstart and the No, Child thing - I wonder if this crap is just a Dem (remember, wasn’t it Ted Kennedy who worked with President Bush on this abomination?)- addition to get the votes needed to pass it. Sort of like Pork and Earmarks on all the other bills?!?
Not that the Repubs of late haven’t been acting just as bad as most Dems - but these ‘behind closed doors’ bills and ‘bi-partisan’ bills are scummy and dirty and should be suspect as soon as they are submitted.
It is a shame. American politics - but Congress in particular is in the sewer.
