  1. Don’t worry Drew you will find plenty of uses for that SDS drill. It is unfortunate that people don’t appreciate it when they get good work done cheaply. If you had been unscrupulous like all too many builders in my experience you would have just upped the bill. By sticking to your principles you will get more recommendations along with the satisfaction of being one of the good guys...even though it doesn’t pay the rent. oh oh

  2. Sounds like one of the thresholds we have - not a wood floor on the one side - one of these newer tile deals - better than just a lay it down fake tile sheet but not individual tiles (shows you how much I know about building materials) any way and carpet stairs (to basement) on the other side. About once a year (have to use the pathway often - laundry is in basement) - hubby is down attempting to secure it for another year. This year it has stayed well - so he did a super job.

He did finally seal the stupid leak in the basement wall - had to scrape out the past work (thus as is typical making it much bigger than originally was) and used a resin and something else (my building expertise showing again) kit. It has worked and now he must smooth down and finally in probably over a year - we can put the damn thing back together - and yes - the previous owner had already done a cheapo job - which is probably why it went on us too. Which kind of surprises me, as the rest of the stuff they did around here was not cheapo at all.

Any way - We have gone through many drills & other tools as my hubby rarely got them back - so he went and bought new. I put up with it - because he does do most of the work. About the only thing we really avoid is plumbing because it has such repercussions to the entire house.

It always seems that the most simple job becomes the biggest FUBAR in a nanosecond. Just one of those pesky little facts of life.

  3. Hydraulic cement is usually what gets used to seal leaks in concrete or cinder block foundations. But the stuff sets so fast that you never get the chance to smooth it out nice. Just slap it on, push it in, and it’s already half dry. So the patches look awful, but they usually hold.
