Muslims in Britain should be able to live under Sharia law

  1. “We should have one law for everyone in the UK, but there may be very rare occasions when exceptions have to be made, like for marriage, divorce and food.”

Ya know, I can see their point, I really can. Orthodox Jews, Mormons, Catholics, all have their own rules concerning such things, and in that sense it’s only fair that the Muslims should have precisely the same freedoms, guaranteed precisely the same way. As my brother in law would say, “It sounds good if you say it fast enough.”

Now for the flaws in this idea.

Marriage: I am perfectly okay with someone having their own weird rules concerning marriage. If it’s good enough for every other stripe of religion, I don’t see why it’s not good enough for them. EXCEPT..... waitaminit, if your religious law says that she doesn’t have any say in when or to whom she gets married… and if your religious law says that you can inflict such enforced marriages on children.... and if your religious law says that once she’s married to you, you have the *right* as her husband to beat her into a paste, or BEHEAD her, for failing to do precisely as you wished… or for that matter, for no reason at all… um, no. That’s not marriage, that’s slavery. We got rid of that over here. We’re not bringing it back. Sorry if that doesn’t agree with your religious principles. Is that discrimination? Yeah, it is. Oh well, sucks to be you.

    Divorce: See marriage, above.

Food: You can eat whatever the hell you please for all of me. You can consider whatever you choose to be “vile and unclean”, too, and I’m okay with that. But if you want a job at the grocery store, THE GUY WHO OWNS THE STORE decides what he/she sells, not you. It is your job to deal with what HE/SHE CHOOSES to have in his/her store. If you aren’t okay with that, work somewhere else. You see, most store owners are practicing capitalists, and the 1st Commandment of Capitalism is, “Thou, the employee, shall button thy lip and do thy damn job.”

Financial transactions: Personally, I’m of the opinion that two or more adult should be able to enter into whatever form of contract they like. That’s my only problem with those who are against gay marriage. I figure if all parties want such a contract, it’s the government’s job to justify why they should be prohibited from it, not the citizens’ job to justify why it should be allowed. But once again, the question of who has what rights comes into it (see marriage, above). And as if that weren’t enough, what happens in financial transactions between people of two different faiths? There are those who firmly believe that it’s perfectly acceptable to reneg on your side of a contract if the person contracted with is not of your faith. Gonna honor that “religious law” too?

It seems to me that once that can has been opened, yer gonna have worms EVERYWHERE. Granted, I may be wrong, but wouldn’t it be well to have such questions resolved BEFORE it matters, rather than after?

  3. Khalid Mahmood, Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Bar and a practising Muslim, said that allowing Sharia law in parts of the UK would be divisive.

He said: “This would create a two-tier society. It is highly retrograde. It will segregate and alienate the Muslim community from the rest of British society.

Obviously, some of them get it.In fact if

“The majority of British Muslims want to live only under British law and they would reject anything that means they are treated differently.

Then by GOD why don’t they tell the hardcore to STFU?

  4. Damn straight. This is pure bullshit. One law for me, the same for thee. No special laws for the gentry like in the old days. No special laws for one religious group either. They can have all the religious rules they want, but whatever they do MUST stay inside secular law.

The instant that laws are set in place that treat one group better or worse than another is the instant that your society teeters over the abyss. Which is why “hate crime” laws are 100% wrong and unconstitutional, as are laws that punish murderers more for who they kill (cops, EMTs, etc) than for the actual killing. Equal rights MUST mean the same laws for all, not matter what, otherwise your culture instantly stratifies, and it’s over.
