  1. What was an EIGHTEEN year old doing wandering around an “island paradise” by herself anyway?
According to report yesterday the “young lady” make “sexual contact” with the dutch kid in a car.
    WTF.
You know- maybe if her parents hadn’t tried to be buddy-buddy with their over indulged daughter(I’VE never goone on a trip and had sex with someone I met there)-she might still be alive.
The girl’s murder is tragic. It was also highly preventable.

  2. Well Barb, she was indeed 18. By the LAW, she is an adult and for better or worse she got to make her own decisions. One which cost her her life.

And probably like any Dutch colony, they will NOT have the Death Penalty...so he’ll only be too happy to spend the rest of his life locked and coddled up!

  3. Are any of us surprised?

So where was the “adult-supervison” for this class trip?  What the Hell were the parents thinking when they sent their 18 year old daughter off with minimal to no supervision to a foreign country where young blonde females have disappeared in the past?

I guess this could’ve happened anywhere. However, on a sponsored trip of some 120 teenagers are 7 chaperones sufficient?

I’m surprised only one of the teens on this trip came to a tragic end.

  4. It’s a sad and tragic thing all the way around.

No matter the number of chaperones, they should have been indoctrinated to stay in groups.

Never go anywhere alone in a strange place, no matter how friendly it seems. This is especially true for young women.

Perhaps this lesson will be learned, but it’s too high a price to learn this way.

  5. BobF:

Maybe Holloway would be alive if she had a Kevlar, an M-16, and an Infantry Fire Team with her.

You’re doing the Apples and Oranges Thing.  By the end of Basic Training the 18 year olds with whom I’ve had experience have matured greatly and are capable of exercising a great amount of judgement—usually involving questions of life and death.

Most non-military 18 years olds can’t find their collective asses with both hands.

  6. I agree with StinKerr.........supposedly from what I have read, this girl was a bright young lady.......She should never have left her group to go off with guys she did not know..........One would think her peers & friends would have tried to prevent her from going off with them!!

  7. Guess what really bothers me is that this was some sort of officially sanctioned trip.  Whatever agency sponsored this expedition took on the responsibility of the safety and well-being of the teens who participated.

The chaperones traveled seperately from the teens in a private jet.  There were only 7 chaperones to herd over 100 teenagers—a poor ratio in my opinion.  Sounds like no one was in charge.

The adults apparently were more interested in their own fun in the sun and turned the kids loose.  This situation exhibited very poor judgement by everyone involved.
