Most ..uh.. Ridiculous Item Of The Day

  1. Now that was funny!  The narrative was spot-on and downright hilarious in contrast to the visuals.  Of course, I speak Japanese and Japanese culture is something of a interest of mine...so of course I found it humorous.

Of course those who don’t share my interests may not be in on how much of a joke this video was...hell, it took me a minute or two to completely realize that it wasn’t some run-of-the-mill, “Sushi for dumb American gaijin businessmen” training video.  Thank you for lightening my mood tonight Skipper!  I can only guess how you ran across this…

By the way, those 2 dudes in the video could easily be mistaken for a couple of the “shinjinrui”...hahaha!

  2. Dear Jap Yuppie: (No offence intended—my daughter is dating one) (she says he’s really hot) (you’re not Yakuza are you?  red face ) Please forgive Our Skipper for being a rube and a hick.

I’m probably the only 60+ Kentucky Marine in the world who loves sushi.
    nigiri, maki, and sashimi

  3. Who you callin’ a “rube and a hick”, you dumb pig!?

    cool grin  finger  pig  dickhead

  4. I’ll still settle for bass and trout straight out of the water into the skillet over a campfire.

Skipper, what do you think?  Should it be fugu poisoning for our favorite piglet, or hara-kiri?

    LOL

  5. Um...I’ll go with Tannanburg on this one though.  I find the idea of of raw fish pretty repulsive, despite my fondness for the culture.  I don’t think any amount of soy sauce will disguise the smell or taste of raw fish...wherever you may find it!

Sorry to disappoint, Oink.  I’m 100% American: born and raised.  So yakusa, jap yuppie?  Not quite.  They would probably see me as just another “henna gaijin.” Nevertheless, I can appreciate people who speak their mind...don’t change Oink!

  6. I’m surrounded by the unsophisticated!  Sheesh ..

n.b. My future Jap-Son-in-Law is also 100% American B&B but he speaks the language and can prepare sushi.

shamjinrui: Your finding sushi ‘pretty repulsive’ would be like a Kentucky Marine disliking SOS .... You know what that is, eh? Practically UN-American!

  7. I thought the Air Force had Eggs Benedict.

  8. Silly Rabbit—Squids Are For Kids.

The USMC version of SOS is sausage gravy over bisquits.  I can make a tasty version of it.

  9. SOS, one can survive on it, but biscuits and gravy, that’s REAL MAN food :rulez:

Side order of CHEESE GRITS is optional gulp

  10. Hey Oink, I remember the Navy having both flavors on the chow line for breakfast. I was always working night shift at sea so breakfast was my dinner! I really loved the SGOB version for dinner.
Think you could post your recipe. I’d like to try it sometime. smile

  11. So, how does one say “may I please have a chunder bucket” in Japanese? barf

One thing troubles me, why did they pixelate some of that mystery meat in the video question

All of this pomp and ceremony makes eating a “square meal” look like childs play.

It looked like one of the “two dudes” was about to toss his tuna tacos all over the floor barf barf barf

(In Japanese: This tastes like shit but it is very good shit )

Gimme biscuits and gravy, with a side of cheese grtis any day over this shit

  13. I hate to break it to you Skipper, but I LOVE sushi and sashimi, and I’m NOT liberal.  It’s my favorite food.

  14. You don’t have to be a lib to like sushi, though it helps.

And there is nothing wrong with liking the bait. Velvita cheese, man! All creatures like it.

  15. OINK’S MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION BISCUITS AND GRAVY

    Biscuits

    1.  A bunch of self-rising flour in a big bowl (add your own baking flour & dab of baking soda to regular flour if you wanna be silly)

    2. A stick of butter, or so, enough to match the flour

    3. buttermilk

USING A PASTRY CUTTER (mine’s damn sharp) cut the butter into the flour until it’s not too lumpy.

POUR IN THE BUTTERMILK, stir enough, dump on board or something, more flour, work it around until not gummy, press it flat, cut it into biscuits, not too thick not too thin (they RISE). Bake on ungreased sheet at 450 fror 10 min.

    Gravy

Fry a pound of Pepperidge Farm Whole Hog Sausage pig excaim  til done.  Pour on some regular flour, maybe a heaping tablespoon?  Stir until gummy mess. Add whole milk until it looks right.  Thickens as it boils. May need more milk.  Screw around with it—you’ll get good.

  16. Lisa:  You’re awfully close to my idea of a perfect woman.  Ceptin’ I been faithfully married 36 years.

Just avoid the shellfish.  Everytime we go to the sushi place we meet our Jewish friends.  We are incorrigible Jew-Lovers—almost all of our friends are.  You’re Sephardic, HOO -Rah!

  17. You people are all sick, sick, sick! If God had intended us to eat fish raw he would have taken fire away from us a long time ago. Eeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhh!

Raw fish are unsanitary, nasty slimey pieces of raw meat. Tasteless raw meat - but with a disagreable odor.

  18. Skipper, sushi is not supposed to smell fishey.  Neither is cooked fish for that matter.  If it smells fishey, it’s just not fresh.  In fact, I find sushi to be MUCH less fishey tasting than cooked fish.  It’s also as soft as butter but without the heaviness. And it has a salty-ish taste which I love.  I could eat it every day!  Last week, I bought a 4-6 oz bottle of the salmon roe (the pink eggs) and wolfed it down in less than five minutes.

    And Oink, thank you.

  19. Grew up in New England on lobster, shrimp and clams (quahogs in R.I.).............never, ever ate any raw seafood and still do not to this day.........Whenever we steamed the quahogs, if the shells did not open, we threw them out as this was indicative of a bad one................give me a dish of steamed clams with melted butter & I am in heaven.........the same with a boiled lobsta (New Englandese for lobster).............in my opinion, send the sushi back to Japan!!!!!!!  Biscuits & gravy is also not a New England dish - people here in St. Louis seem to love it - it is usually on my hospital’s breakfast menu - but I pass in favor of plain old bacon & eggs.......

  20. Skipper: Is there anything else you avoid for the same mistaken belief?  wink

Posted by Oink    United States   12/22/2005  at  11:02 PM

  21. Oink, you presume too much when you say I am “mistaken”. As far as I’m concerned, you and Lisa can eat whatever you damn well please. I will eat what pleases me and I will avoid raw fish if I wish. End of story.

  23. Dottie, Last Friday night, The Chieftian Pub, Rt-1 in Plainville, MA. Best steamers I’ve had in a looong time!
Course it kinda helps when you can wash them down with a pint of Guinness on tap!
    smile

  24. Carguy - when I was “back home” in September steamers were not on any menu at any restuarant I stopped at due to red tide.........was able to get fried clams but no steamers........I was so disappointed as I absolutely love steamers!!!!!!!!!!!  Satisfied myself with lots of lobsta!!!!!!!!
