Most Outrageous Item Of The Week

  1. Hmm, I guess its The Jungle in there still. Damnation. You could say the raid was for the employee’s own good; this place sounds like the job from hell to me.

I belonged to UFCW for the first 10 years it existed. Never, EVER, thought they would sink this low. I’m sure that the union, formed decades ago by a merger between the retail clerk’s union and the meat cutters, can’t stand to see this shop union free. The workers there don’t realize they’re being played.

I think this another one of ICE’s bogus raids ... good bet that by next week every single one of these illegals is right back at work, just like the last big raid a couple months ago. If they had done it right there would have been a prison train right outside the factory gates, next stop Tiajuana.

Too bad too, Smithfield makes the nicest bacon and smoked hams. But I would rather see them out of business and bankrupt from fines than employing even one illegal.

  2. Uh, wait I don’t get it - the company which hired illegals (at below minimum pay, without benies) abuses workers, because it fired the illegals? What part of this is within reality at all? Guess now that most American companies are going under because of the union rights for life benies - they must now recruit illegals to unionize.

As far as illegal raiding - they need to read the OH playbook - one raid on a mega local construction co. subcontractor did the trick. Co has paid thous in fines, illegals are sunning themselves back in ole Mexico and the local ‘day’ workers hangout mysteriously reloctated within 24 hours. Even a local house that housed numerous single hispanics - is suddenly back to a ‘single’ family home.

That and a couple of other less than infamous raids worked here locally - we no longer hear a thing about ‘immigrantion rights.’ Or problems with illegals.

Even our local Tavern that has made waves twice with his ‘Speak English or don’t get served’ sign - got a pass yesterday.

Funny, how when the law is enforced, the locals seem to be ok with it and go on with life as usual. Just wish the morons in DC would get the message - ok and the ACLU and the unions.

  3. I keep waiting for them to step up here in Texas.
Make the laws and follow the darned things!
I, quite truthfully, am sick of the entire situation.
The illegals need to go back home - NOW!
I am deliberately not shopping this weekend, as it is some sort of Mexican holiday that gives them 3 day weekend.
Droves of them come to Texas and surrounding states to “shop” before Christmas.
I had to pull into the WalMart parking lot to go to the Sprint store and it was bumper to bumper cars.
Oh, yes, they also spend a weekend partying here, so I will do my level best not to drive after dark, due to the fact that driving drunk appears to be a national past time.
We know how much they respect and follow our laws, so I am sure they all have purchased temporary insurance while spending time in the US.

    How many end up staying?
    AAAGH! mad

  4. Let me get this straight.  The company employs 5,000 non-union workers of which 1,000 walked off the job (1/5th) after 75 workers were fired for verifiably false documentation.  A union which does not officially represent the workers managed to get 300 to protest, while 700 abstained and there were 600 workers whose documentation could not be verified.  Let me see, 600 + 75 = 675 + 300 = 975.  Could the 975 workers who walked off the job be a rounded off 1,000?  Or were there 25 workers who simply vanished? Were the 700 scared to show up for the protest in case ICE made an appearance?  It seems that the entire 1,000 were illegal or least could not be proven to be legal? Or were 300 just plain ignorant?  i.e. risking their jobs.  Or were they union workers from elsewhere who showed up to protest?  Shouldn’t one be required to verify citizenship, working papers, or a working visa when seeking employment in the USA?

In my opinion, Smithfield Foods, Inc. should immediately fire the 1,000 who walked off the job!  They should also obtain restraining orders against the union officials, barring them from the plants property.  If they step foot onto the plants property they should be charged with trespassing on private property.  Smithfield should grant overtime to a percentage of the remaining workers to make up for the production impact and start daily interviews for new workers.  This time, doing full citizenship background checks while the employees are on their 90 days of probation.  In addition, I would like to see the Fed’s fine Smithfield whatever is appropriate punishment for knowingly hiring illegal workers.
