  1. Like you said, the only reason Africa is so screwed up is because we keep giving them handouts. Cut them off, they will sink or swim, either way...i don’t give a flying shit as long as I can keep buying cheap “blood diamonds”

    Oh yeah...I’M BAAAACK!

  2. Oh, they’re trying to move north as quickly as they can. Many are interned in concentration detention camps in north AFrica, notably Lybia. The Euros are paying for this as a way to slow the illegals streaming into Europe.

I must wonder if they’re treating the detainees better than GITMO. Somehow I doubt it.

  3. Oh, no, Phobos. We must be culturally sensitive when feeding the hungry people. People who would eat damn near anything you put in front of them. It’s not for the actual hungry people as much as it’s for the ones who will find fault with anything we do. They have time to find fault because they’re not doing a fucking thing to help the situation themselves.

(That first line started out to be irony/sarcasm but it grew into fact in the writing and I wasn’t quite sure how to handle it, so I let it stand without the tag.)

I have to agree with the premise of the Skipper’s post. We’ve poured Billions into Africa in the last 20 years and it’s in worse shape now. “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

Something has to change. I’m sick of pouring money down that sink hole and being berated for it not being enough. More free money would only make it worse, quicker.

I’m thinking that someone on this thread had a good sounding solution but I’m in preview mode now and can’t read the damn thread. I believe that it was a lot like what the President has outlined. Give ‘em aid and demand to see results before they get any more aid.

Some of the NGO’s have learned the valuable lesson that bringing in free food only helps in the extreme short term for an emergency like the recent tsunami. They have learned to buy as much as they can locally so as not to destroy the local food production that still exists. This should apply in Africa too. Buying as much as possible in the area will actually help the country increase their own ability to feed themselves and eliminate the future need for food relief.

Of course that might put the NGOs out of business eventually…

  6. So far I haven’t heard a peep out of the moonbats about this. Of course, the Euros are behind it and the U.S. has nothing to do with it. Ya don’t suppose that could be the reason for the deafening silence, do ya?
