  1. ...So now he gets to continue to chase women, is still a lawyer, and gets $5700 a month for life

That is why he went to law school que no?

I may have told you guys this before.

    I was in communications/cryptography when
    I was in the service.

One of the jobs I had to do was read msgs
from brass to brass. Those msgs were the
    most highly classified msgs extant.

When one of those msgs came over the TTY
there was a special protocol announced by
    a series of bells.

That signaled to everyone to leave the
    room. ‘Cept me.

I had a special locker which held a hood.
A big black hood that fit over my head and
the section of a TTY tht showed the msg.

I’d don that hood, go over and bend down
over the TTY, wait till the msg was done,
rip it, call for a courier and see to its
    quick delivery.

    The absolute highest classification msg
I EVER got was from one admiral to another.

The gist of the msg was that some lower
level officer was fucking the wife of yet
    another admiral.

    He was a Navy lawyer.

I’m going to assume he went into private
    practice shortly thereafter. Putz.

  2. This brings to mind a story I was told by a friend....

A Commander of an Aviation Unit at Bragg who, when his unit was deployed to Haiti, decided to be a *stick pig*. He flew around in a helicopter for pretty much the first 4 days they werwe there. He left all the work to 2 Lt’s- logistics, where the unit should stay, etc. The Unit was literally living out of their helicopters while their commander got stick time.

They ended up setting up camp in a hangar, eating MRE’s- The Commander was only in radio contact, and if at a range, unreachable.

When the Unit returned to Bragg from Haiti, the Commander was relieved for cause- for basically abandoning his unit as their Commander.

Now, was he brought up on charges? No. Did he receive reduction in rank? No. No fines either.

He had a West Point ring. So, He kept his rank, and went to work for a West Point General at Bragg

Had he been an LT, etc...there would have been charges...Had he not had that West Point ring, he would have been charged.

    Just my humble opinion
    heart

  3. You left out one of the larger statistical reducers, Vilmar:  a higher proportion of young, black males in prison than any other race.

Having stated that, let me add that the best Marine I ever served with as an infantryman was black.  I’d follow the man into hell, and have no doubt he could get me out again.  Also one of the smartest people I’ve ever known.

I’m just pointing out that you left out a statistical factor that definitely has a measureable impact on the size of the available recruiting pool.

  4. Jar, Just checking to see who’s paying attention.

My original post had 5 reasons.  And then I thought, “hmmm, I wonder........”

    So I cut it out.

    You nailed it.

Watch this space tomorrow for more on the subject of the military, Blacks, and voting.

  5. There’s also the High School diploma aspect. I believe you can’t get into the military without one. GED isn’t good enough, either.

This would be the same Charlie who introduced the draft legislation because blacks and poor are disproportionately represented in the military. How many sides of his mouth can this asshat talk out of?

  6. Unless it has changed (and I used to be a recruiter), if you had a GED you could join...that was acceptable in lieu of a HS diploma.

The thing which really irks me...I am *retired* Navy...but am technically subject to recall if the powers that be deem it necessary.  I think I can speak for a large part of the retired community when I say...if your numbers are too low, RECALL US!! We are ready and willing to go back into the service.  You think the folks in DC are listening?

  7. BobF, well put.  As Commander-in-Chief, the President needs to take some action here with regards to Lt. Pantano.  Young people will become very disillusioned if they fear that everything they do is going to be turned into a My Lai by the PC morons.  Write to your Congess critters; write to the White House.  We must do whatever we can to ensure that the brave men and women who have already given their lives and lost their limbs have not done so in vain.  This just makes me sick.

I would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Lt. any day.  Well done, and Semper Fi, Sir.

P.S. I have not been able to listen to much talk radio since leaving the country, but last time I had the chance, it seems that Michael Savage is the only national host who is actively doing something to help this guy by donating proceeds from his soon-to-be-released new book towards Lt. Pantano’s legal defense fund.

  8. OOOPS...that last comment was from me....that’ll teach me to make sure I’m the one logged in and not my better half!  LOL

  9. Better theory…

Send ‘em to the sandbox armed with an M-4 Carbine

Mind you, one made byTokyo Marui not Colt.

  10. Guy, AFAIK they (well, at least, the Army) don’t take GEDs anymore. They won’t take you without one either. I took my GED while in Basic Training for that reason.

Posted by Draven    United States   03/08/2005  at  05:46 PM

  11. Draven is correct. Getting into the service with out a diplomia is nearly impossible. Try getting into the Navy with a homeschool education.  Having worked with recruiters over the past year or so, I have learned that they either love the position of they hate it.  Most of them would rather be with fighting their units than sitting in a strip mall in a backwater town.  I think a second, and key element, is the refusal of the military services to accept kids that have ANY police record. As one Marine recruiter told me, most of his recruits have never seen a fist fight, let alone been in one.  There are a lot of kids out there that would probably make good soliders save for a youthful indiscretions.  God bless those young men and women that have choosen to service.
