  1. And for those who dont care for history but like a good joke heres one for the east coasters like Drew and Christopher to appreciate:
    Pennsylvania State Trooper Action Report

Two men were driving through Pennsylvania when they got pulled over by a State Trooper. The cop walked up and tapped on the window with his nightstick. The driver rolled down the window and “WHACK,” the cop smacked him in the head with his nightstick.

“What the hell was that for?” the driver asked.

“You’re in Pennsylvania, son,” the trooper answered. “When we pull you over in Pennsylvania, you better have your license ready by the time we get to your car.”

“I’m sorry, officer,” the driver said, “I’m from New York and didn’t know your laws here.”

The trooper runs a check on the guy’s license--he’s clean and gives the guy his license back.

The trooper then walks around to the passenger side and taps on the window. The passenger rolls down the window and “WHACK,” the trooper smacks him on the head with the nightstick.

“What’d you do that for?” the passenger demands.

“Just making your wish come true,” replied the trooper.

“Making WHAT wish come true?” the passenger asked.

“I know you New Yorkers ,” the trooper says, “two miles down the road you’re gonna turn to your buddy and say, ‘I wish that asshole would’ve tried that shit with me!”

  2. I fly R/C airplanes and for a number of years the European modelers weren’t even allowed to build accurately-marked WWII aircraft due to the swastika bans over there.
It was all a bit silly but I’ll never forget the looks on the faces of some of my co-workers from Germany when I took them out to one of our airshows and they saw scale Luftwaffe aircraft with correct markings.

On a similar note there was a story about Martin Caidin, the author of the book that became “The Six Million Dollar Man”.... back in the 70s he used to fly around airshows in a restored JU-52 trimotor with Nazi markings.  He said in an interview that once an old Rabbi came up to him, cursing him for flying around in a plane with swastikas on it.  He turned to the elder man and said “Grandfather, its a war trophy...if they had won the war they’d be flying around in Israeli planes.” The Rabbi thought for a moment then shook his hand and told him to fly it proudly!

  3. As to this post it does take me back to my childhood. As a kid I built and had both US ,german and japanese naval fleets ( Revel models mostly). I even went so far as to built a small pond ( my version of the north sea or pacific ocean)to re-enact WW2 engagements with firecrackers and such ( To generous an allowance I think). Many of my fave websites are like those peiper lists for the Graf Spee.History of US Battalships and the worldwide fleet destruction in 1922 are also great history to look back on. OK, Ill shut up now.

  4. My Dad had a Rising Sun flag and a samurai sword. I know that my brother got the sword. I have gone through a month of dreading that everything left by my mother (a 1 bedroom apartment and a storage unit - which is mostly my Dad’s stuff) would be put up on the auction block. Apparently upsetting my older brother (a retired lawyer) has made the two guys who were co-executors quit (or the fact that there is nothing left except the old belongings - so no one is getting any filthy lucre) - So now I will try to get all her possessions here to the city while my Uncle (a semi-retired lawyer) does all the legal work. Over a month - there is no excuse for this crappola - wait where was I?

Oh yeah - he also had pictures of the one island he went on with the Marines (he was a Navy Doc on a medical ship - but every island, one Doc had to go in with the Marines - needless to say, that wasn’t a wanted assignment) - the devastation was horrid and the pictures gruesome. There is a reason the saying War is Hell came into being.

It is sad that the overindulged, fix the World by re-writing history, let’s all hold hands and sing kumbyah bsers don’t realize much more peace would happen if real history on all events - both good and bad were taught to all children of the World.
