Moonbats in Africa

  1. I am sorry, but Mugabe has to realize at this point that his days are likely numbered. Hell, it is a wonder that a coup or revolution has not unseated him yet!

The man has appallingly few achievements. He:

    * In spite of numerical disparities, the lack of aid to Rhodesia, aid from China, the USSR, Mozambique, and Angola, he was utterly defeated by Smith and the Rhodesian military in his attempted “Revolution.”

    * He ruined what was the breadbasket of Southern Africa to the point where thousands die weekly on very fertile fields.

    * His intervention in the Second Congo War is a textbook example of ineptitude on an epic scale (you think that Osama and Co are absolutely miserable in the field? Take a look at this, where his army was badly mutilated in various skirmishes and battles for negligible results.)

    * His financial “reforms” have been disastrous to all involved.

    And, most critically perhaps,

    * He has utterly alienated a considerable majority from him.

Is that everything? Probably not, but it will suffice for now.

Say what you will, but while tyrants can afford to be cruel and corrupt, they usually cannot afford to be incompetent. And Mugabe is nothing if not all of the above.

He only is on the top on the virtue of three things:

    1. He thus far has been able to come on top in every internal squabble the ZANU-PF has had.

    2. His neighbors, if not friendly to him, are at least do not hate him enough to invade and unseat him.

    3. Chinese and (to a lesser extent) Russian aid have been flowing to him and his loyal militias.

However, he is starting to show signs of weakness.

Take the last election. I believe that is a tipping point and a significant defeat for Mugabe.

    Why?

Because this is a first. The opposition, IN SPITE of Mugabe’s countless corrupt practices to rig the vote (using the “War Veterans” to attack opposition, persecution, tossing Red Tape, etc) failed. The MDC defeated the ZANU-PF to such an extent that even they were forced to admit it (and, mark my words, they probably lessened the margin of victory the MDC won over them).

In order to preserve his power, Mugabe had to shed all Democratic and Constitutional robes and use arm force to suppress President Tsvangirai and the MDC.

And that is BAD news for him. Why?

The fact that he had to resort to this after his usual red-tape and intimidation failed shows that he is critically weak. And he must know this.

And the kicker is that he is hardly going to get any more popular. The only things he can do are blame the near-extinct White Farmers, the British, the Americans, and countless other bogymen for all of his failures. And that alone has sustained very few regimes.

If I were Mugabe, I would be stashing guns at my various personal places, hammering Beijing for every drop of support I could get, and keeping a getaway vehicle within easy access, just in case.

  2. I almost forgot:

    A word to the opposition:

Next election (if, indeed, there is a next election) do not make the crucial mistake President Tsvangirai made on expecting the ZANU-PF would collapse after such an electoral defeat.

Next time, be prepared to enforce the mandate given to you by the ballot with firepower, or be prepared to be crushed.

If it means Civil War, you must be willing to accept that, but be sure to have enough hardware and training to take out anything Mugabe and/or his Chinese, Russian, and Mozambican allies may send against you.

Because it is likely that only then will you be able to take the power already vested in you by a mandate of the people.

  5. Oh wow. Macker. The dreaded ‘F’ word.  You?

Shouldn’t kid about this subject I guess but ya know, one has to wonder how it is that nobody (that we know of) has taken a shot at him.

As for his charge that the disease is all whiteys’ doing.  I don’t think he really believes that but the major portion of his population might well believe it.
Hey, we are not talking about grammar school school grads here.

PREDICTION:  glue (but don’t sniff) it to your fridge.
Even with that sob gone, NOTHIN’ WILL CHANGE in that part of the world. EVER!

  6. Pieper: “, one has to wonder how it is that nobody (that we know of) has taken a shot at him.” Well, Mugabe has been relatively wise in picking his friends and foes: he has been very, VERY kind to the “Kalashnikov Estate” of African politics, as can be seen by the loyalty of the “War Veterans” and the military to him. In addition, he has relatively good relations with all the states surrounding him. No neighboring country sanctioning his overthrow= no safe haven for raiders or plotters.

“I don’t think he really believes that but the major portion of his population might well believe it. “

If anything, I would think it would be the other way around. The clear MDC victory last election shows that increasingly few of Mugabe’s “citizens” like their thug-in-chief, while Mugabe was never known to be “all there” mentally.
