It appears that they are inflating their AWOL numbers by using the totals of everybody that has EVER gone AWOL: “Some have been missing for decades.” Apparently there aren’t enough recent AWOLs to impress the reader or support the premise of the writer.
The biggest laugh line for me:
“...who joined the Army believing he could help change its culture.”
The ant climbing the elephant’s leg with rape on his mind.
“Within days of arriving for his basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he realised he had made a mistake and said the Army simply wanted to turn him into a “ruthless, cold-blooded killer”.”
OH NO. Big mistake. He thought he was joining the Salvation Army. An easy mistake to make.
Excellent commentary Allan. The MSM clearly has a left wing agenda. Anything that makes American or President Bush look bad, they quickly publish. On the other hand if it makes liberals look bad, they will do rigorous “fact checking.”
Speaking as a former advertising sales person, I will have to say that firing the editors is just not enough. They will only hire more moonbats to fill the jobs. Newsweek needs to be hit where it really hurts. Their advertisers need to be contacted and told that patriotic Americans will no longer purchase their products/services if they continue to finance this left wing rag.
Yes, Lisa, they’ll rigorously fact check until the whole thing blows over.
Too right StinKerr. Just take a look at Kerry’s lack of forthcoming about his military records.
Lisar, does contacting advertisers really work in the real world? I can’t ever remember a retraction or apology arising from people threatening to stop buying products. Remember all those (20+) outdoor goods manufacturers who were publicly supporting Kerry at your last election? Did any of the Rep. backlash have any effect on their sales? Doubt it.
No wait.....there was an ad in the Super Bowl first half that got pulled for the rest of the game. But that had a Rep. flavour, so I guess that doesn’t count. Then there was the Anheuser-Busch(sp) commercial........

Yeah, Dan. The AP sued to make sure that they saw all of Bush’s military records after he released all of them. They haven’t mentioned Kerry’s records-EVER. He promised to sign the form 180, let’s see, 106 days ago, (DANEgrous is keeping track)
They also have never replied to my emails asking why this is so. I bet I get my response sometime after Kerry signs the form 180.
No agenda there, eh?
BMEWS is also keeping track of Kerry’s procrastination. Have any of you noticed the “Kerry Klock” in the front page here (top right sidebar). We’re tracking Kuckoo-Kerry’s promise to the second.
Yes, Allan, I did notice it. And you’ve now introduced a new phrase to the blogosphere - the BMEWS Kuckoo-Kerry-Klock (or KKK for short.) Or should it be the Kerry-Kuckoo Klock? No, I think the first is better with its association with Kerry as well as the Klock.
Any news about OCM yet?

As luck would have it, Skipper, I noticed that after I posted. I assumed it was something you were working on as it doesn’t display anything nor are there any links on it. I’m using FireFox. After reading your reply I checked using IE and it seems to be partly hidden in the margins but still isn’t showing anyting.
Oops. I had java disabled on FireFox. It’s there now. Shall I report to the bilges or the bo’sun locker for the extra duty?
Dan, magazines make their money from advertising. If you open up an issue of Newsweek and check its masthead, you’ll see a listing of all their entire sales staff for the U.S and around the world. The job of these people is to schmooze advertisers and media buyers so that they’ll continue to purchase full page ads. The money Newsweek gets from subscriptions, like any other magazine, from my experience is just chump change. It may just offset the cost of mailing the magazine to subscribers, but nothing more. Whether or not something like this would really work, I don’t know. I should think if the heads of marketing of these companies were contacted, along with their advertising agencies, then it could make a dent. I don’t think letters to the editor will go far at all.
DAN: No word yet on OCM. I’m awaiting word from his sister tonight. I’ll update as soon as I hear.
STINKERR: First offense gets only a warning: JAVA IS GOOD! Second offense will get you a week swabbing out the bilges.
Thanks, Skipper. I had it turned off as advised due to a recently announced security flaw. I’m hoping the update took care of it.
Won’t be my first time in the bilges. I had the dubious pleasure on one of my old tin-cans. It was an experience never to be forgotten with the exhaust steam from the bilge pump and other unknown sources turning back in to hot water and landing on me. That kept me moving.
STINKERR (and everyone else using FireFox): Go ahead and get the latest update (v.1.0.4) which is supposed to patch the java security flaws.
Yep, got that one but I wasn’t sure which of the two flaws it was supposed to fix. With any luck it fixed both. It came out pretty quickly after the announcement of the flaws. Of course, these guys arent MS.
We had people gp over the wall when I was in bootcamp-not because the USMC was turning them into killers-more like thwy couldn’t would adjust to military discipline.
As for cry etc-that first night in processing- the flooding going on could have floated the ark.
Those tears later turned to pride when a new skil was achieved or fear overcome-even for those of us who didn’t make it all the way.
Those mentioned in the above story are a bunch of f***ing wussies!
Thanks Lisar.
Unfortunately, the damage is done long before any retractions or apologies. In this case, 16 people are dead, the goat herders now think they have a new excuse to rip the US a new one, and America has probably sunk to a new low in the world’s eyes. Yet, little or nothing will be done to those who purpetrated this. Just like See-BS/RatherGate. “Letters To The Editor”? The more the better. Media loves ‘em. It means that people are reading/watching them.
It has never ceased to amaze me, that with the info-highway, such as it is, and SO much ‘news’ being run - by bloggers - that gummints, the MSM, big corporations and other businesses, have not caught on. People today are infinitely much better informed compared to 10 or 15 years ago; and almost instantly to boot. And that is growing by leaps and bounds. It makes one think that the MSM people are having too many long liquid lunches at the press clubs.
You just need to look across the border to your north, to see just how stupid these people are. Trying to hush up procedings in the ADSCAM thing and the testimony in the “public"(??) Gomery inquiry that was on the US net within minutes of the ban. Hah!
Oh well, just my $0.02Cdn worth. (.014US) And I’ll repeat myself yet again: “Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.”
