  1. That’s the England I miss.

  2. Some small parts still exist. Just. And I fear it’s getting smaller. My wife is determined to get me out of the house and away from the puter an afternoon a week, weather permitting.

  3. "Original Pub Grub” is a burger with fries? Not what I was expecting. And I’m almost afraid to ask what the English version of a hamburger is like. I know they use malt vinegar instead of ketchup on the fries chips, so I can only imagine what happens to the stuff between the buns. Probably has herring in it.

  4. Makes me miss all those Gasthaus (umm, what is the plural of Gasthaus?!?) from Germany. Great food, a leisurely meal and not a lot shelled out to pay for it.

  5. Drew ... we went back today for lunch and had the burger and trust me. Very good. No herring. And these days most folks have their chips with the red stuff, altho I prefer mayo sometimes. But long ago, when I first met the wife and now we’re talking over 40 years, yeah. She used malt vinegar. Still does sometimes.

A popular potato chip (Crisps) is a salt and vinegar flavor. YUK!  And she thinks peanut butter is gross.

  6. Wardmama, the plural of Gasthaus is “Damn, I gained 5 pounds!”

  7. I live in Devon and will be going up to Basingstoke shortly.  I will front up at the Roebuck for lunch on the way home.  Looking forward to it.
