1. The only base I can remotely make fit the clues is RAF Mildenhall, East Anglia, UK.

Never been there, but took a scenic tour through a couple of nearby smaller (now closed) bases a few years ago...seemed like nice places to spend a tour.

  2. subtle clue, subtle clue .... how about Hahn Air Base in Germany, somewhere near the Meander river??

Where is “Lurk”? (a.k.a. “Springs Guy")

  4. I’ll take a stab at it Skipper…

    Is it Incirlik AFB, Turkey?

Posted by Severa United States 05/15/2007 at 03:23 PM

  5. Not sure of the base, but Sarge here is fully qualified on this and several variants of that Tactical Satellite Terminal. SATCOM Rangers, Wizards of FM and other Minor Miracles.

  8. Taif (near Jeddah, KSA)

  9. *Adds to her answer*

As to the word clue in hint 1: The Meander River (or Maeander) river is the classical name for the Büyük Menderes River, Turkey. There’s two other Meander rivers, one in Australia and one in Canada.

    (thank you Wikipedia wink )

  10. Severa’s getting warm. The “word clue” is teasing, ain’t it?

    LOL

  11. No one else is eve close yet. I’m still dancing my HAPPY DANCE™!

  12. Okay...took a while...Batman, Turkey

Posted by Springs_guy United States 05/15/2007 at 03:54 PM

  13. Last SWAG this station: Alice Springs, Australia.

  14. Ok, I’m stumped. But I hardly ever play this game anyway. Severa ran with the same clue as I did I think; meander --> Meander River --> called Buyuk Menderes in Turkey -->only base we got there is Incirlik. But that base doesn’t look like it at all. I also hunted down some Special Forces JTF and came up with Prince Sultan AFB (Al Kharj) but that isn’t a good match either. More SF-JTF action came out of Ramstein, and that AFB doesn’t fit this picture at all. Aviano AFB in Italy is well placed, but again the runway doesn’t match.

Ok flyboys, you solve this one. I got stuff to do.

  16. Yo, Skipper...how’s your HAPPY DANCE™! Any thoughts on comment #12? I think the music has stopped.

  17. YES, INDEEDY-BEADY! Springs_Guy wins the Golden Compass Trophy AGAIN!

    That is:

    BATMAN AIR BASE

    http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/europe/batman.htm

About 45 minutes East of beautiful downtown Diyarbakir, Turkey. Which is where the original River Meander is located.

    37°54’57"N 41°08’31"E

In the movie “Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines”, the first two military bases SKYNET took control over were Moron Air Field and Batman Air Base. Both are actual military bases. Moron is in Spain and Batman is in Turkey. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181852/trivia

Batman is not named after the “Masked Crusader” but is indeed named after the Batman River in the picture. I have no idea how the Turks stole the name from Stan Lee.

You have all earned your stripes today. Pat yourselves on the back and buy Springs_Guy a round of beers. I did my best to stump you all today but brains (and Google) eventually won out. I’ll have to dig a little deeper next time. Hehehehehehe .....

    LOL

  20. Army"puke",gee Skipper I bet you looked lovely in your blue dress beerparty

Posted by kingaljr United States 05/15/2007 at 06:59 PM

  21. KingAlJr: not nearly as pretty as the rest of you USAF rejects in the Army must have looked all covered in mud and trying to learn to count higher than ten without taking off your socks. banghead

(Oh, shit! Here comes the inter-service horse-shit again! Everybody duck and cover!) cheese

Draven: Picky, picky, picky. I concede my error. Duly noted. LOL

You guys (and gals) are all fun. That’s why I enjoy doing this stupid blog. I have not seen too many blogs over the last three plus years of doing this shiite with this many intelligent grownups just having fun and letting off steam about the screwed-up goings on all around us and occasionally getting into real complex discussions about issues without the usual drivel you see on most Leftist sites (ref: Democratic Underground, DailyKOS, MoveOn.org, etc.). There may be hope for mankind yet.

  23. Ahh interservice BS. Great stuff. The only AF type in my immediate circle is my bro, he’s a C130 loadmaster and the most I did to him was tell him the C130 was a small aircraft. well it IS - next to a C5. Though we do have fun telling the Marines the old standby of

  24. Well fine. No point in mentioning what it actually says in response #2. Shame that river runs all across europe.
