  1. I got one on you - we have Tricare (military) gov insurance, they have a website - try to log on - ‘cuz you can make appointments and check lab results online. I couldn’t get on, call the number - after it all, he begins to ask the security questions - one of which is a pet’s name - so I run down the usual two. Not happening, he gives me a clue - the answer - which I got on his clue - means we set up this online account in Kentucky (1990 to 1998)! I was shocked and got on. I have NOT been able to make appointments from the site nor have I been able to check lab results either. And the kicker - last time I went (two weeks ago) it says I am blocked - get this - because I haven’t been to the website in more than a year! Yeah keeps it up for more than 10 years but turns around and shuts it for a year.

And accents get me too - I constantly have to ask certain people to repeat. And according to the eye doc - I’m on the fast road to losing the sight in my left eye (always been the worst eye) - however I’ve had less problems seeing this past year than in a long time. Never could read their damn eye charts and when the DMV started using magnification, I thought it was Chinese.

    Man I hate getting old!

  2. Man I hate getting old!

I hear that okay. Someone foolish today had a column in which she claims that age is in our mind. We can stay younger if we think young. Yeah. Right. Of course she’s in her early 40s I think. She has not yet experienced what we have.

  3. My worst experience in a grocery store.

3,740 checkout lines but only one is open.  Finally get to be “on deck” and the little old lady in front of me has her large amount of groceries tallied up.  The checker informs her of the total and she says she doesn’t have enough money.  So she and the cashier play some sort of pricing game where the cashier removes one item, checks the total, puts it back, removes a different item, checks the total, etc.  I was actually reaching for my wallet to give the old woman the cash she needed just to get her out of the way when she was satisfied by the total.  She pulls out her wallet to pay and starts COUNTING LOOSE CHANGE.

I yell, “AM I ON FRACKING CANDID CAMERA?!”

Since Allan Funt did not appear, we had to make a strategic withdrawl.

  4. “Man I hate getting old!”

HAH, Wait till you hit the big 70 like me mama.

I got 3 pair of glasses. 1 for reading the paper 1 for using the computer and 1 for driving.

I tried using Verilux lenses (bifocals), but I can’t tilt my head back to use the reading part.

My both hips ache, my heart requires 2 different meds, I take Lipitor and low-dose coated asprin and I take clonazepam to prevent panic attacks.

The company I’m retired from has farmed out their benefit management to an outside company. And yes I can’t access their computer because I keep forgetting the password. My sister to me to write it down, which I did and now I forgot where I put the paper it’s written on.

  5. Ah - because of my eyesight - I was supposed to get bifocals an age ago - but I can’t afford them here (there is some state gov insanity going on here. I use to get contacts - and I wear hard, serious correction types - for $80/ anywhere - here I can’t even get in the door. They all want to redo the eye exam (like I have that extra money - never had eye insurance, the eye doc is only covered by our insurance because I have glaucoma) and neither the previous doc or this one gives a brand - which also makes the eye places crazy. But we are still paying off the glasses I got and my daughter got when we first arrived here in 2005 - I have NEVER in my life - had to put glasses on a credit card and struggled to pay like we’ve done since coming back here. I also have never gone so long without wearing contacts - but that appears to be a losing cause here too.

The docs are attempting to sell me the line about diabetes - but I got the ADA book - and I don’t like the drama - when they don’t want me to do a darn thing - other than another dozen tests and nutrition classes - when I can rattle off the diabetes diet in my sleep. So I think that these are new standard - see how many people we can get onto the ‘program’ schtick - and I’m not buying in. [For clarity, my dad was a doctor with diabetes - so I learned about it in childhood - I’m not going by some online idiocy - I just don’t like doctoring by gov decree or what scams the insurance co the most]

I really feel better than I have in a couple of years - and see better - which is simply the main reason I’m so damn confused that these docs are so over-the-top on their numbers as the definitive guide to medical care.

I’ve already lived 56+ years longer than the docs said I should - so they don’t scare me anymore.

  6. Yikes to all of that!

And I was just going to comment on ways to wire money faster. There has to be one, even if it’s using PayPal to shuffle money between two of your own accounts.

  7. May be a bit late now but I used a company called HIFX to transfer money back and forth to Canada. Their charges are much more reasonable than the scoundrel rates most banks charge.

  8. Hi Lyndon, been meaning to drop you a note. HIFX? Is that a bank? Not familiar to me.
We simply wrote a check on our American account and took it to bank here. Have done it before with no trouble but this time .... rcob! And ur right about the charges. Jeesh. We haven’t even been credited yet but they got their money quickly. How does HIFX work?
