To me the funny part of these stories is that I have never ever talked bridges with county Public Works Director Tom Mathews. I’m a big bridge fan, and handling the county bridges is part of what he does. And he was my landlord for 14 years or so. I didn’t know until after we’d moved out!
So let me get this straight; Guys wreck bridge and only pay a 3k fine. New bridge is awarded to Tony and the boys LLC.
Smells funny to me and after all, this is Jersey.
More than 7 companies bid on the job. The previous bridge job went to some other company.
Thanks for harshing my Snark buss dude.
You know if all the communities and states and Federal Government weren’t funding the pensions/healthcare of every single Union/Federal worker forever - most of this infrastructure fixing could be done quickly and cheaper. I still think that ‘issue’ with the Brent Spence bridge here is that Ohio is committed unto death that it be a Union ‘project’ and Ky isn’t buying (or should I say paying) into that.
I read that like 13% of DOT Federal Monies are going to DOT projects - while like 23% goes to Administrative ‘costs’ and the rest of sucked up by local economies to cover - general funding ‘items’.
Corruption has been going on for decades - it is time to stop this.
A balanced Federal Budget with NO automatic increases, a line by line approval/budgeting/veto and none of this ‘sliding’ taxes etc from one program/dept/fund into another - EVER. I would also like at minimum a 10 year (mine would be 2 year) sunset on any funding. Evaluate it’s effectiveness, it’s possible redundancy, its wastefulness etc. I could go on and on - but you get the idea - It would be a good start.
Of course I’d start with deporting all criminal illegal invaders - Imagine the money the US would save on that alone.
Screw the fine. Make them pay for a replacement bridge.
