  1. Remember that restaurant chain called Sambo’s?

    They had interesting wall art.

    What ever happened to them?

  2. Bill Dana certainly couldn’t get away with his “Jose Jimenez” act these days. Is PC a one way street? .... Of course, it is.

Remember Eddie Murphy doing the characatures of the white men in the barber shop in “Coming to America”? I found it hilarious and not offensive at all. I considered it an indication of Murphy’s skill.

“Amos ‘n Andy” was considered bad taste and racially insensitive and was banned from television but “The Honeymooners” was essentially the same story and was perfectly acceptable. Could “Chico and the Man” be broadcast today?

The harder you look for some nefarious purpose the better the chance of finding it. Even if you have to manufacture it. Some make a living from this.

The usual race pimps are so used to getting their way by their cry of racism that they’re going to be very disappointed when the Mexicans tell ‘em to go piss up a rope. I wonder how many pesos they’re going to try to blackmail [pardon the unfortunate term] out of Vincente Fox. Maybe they want the concession on illegal Mexican labor. Hey, it worked for Jackson with Budweiser. He got a distributorship for a relative with some marching and chanting.

  3. Jessie was mad when Zappa wrote a song about him called Rhymin Man.

    Pretty funny.

  4. FRANK! You found it! That’s the story with the tigers and the butter and ......

    YAY!

    LOL

P.S. In retrospect, I still find nothing racist in that story and I do know that I had a lot of fun coloring it in at the age of four. To me, at that age, Sambo was just another kid who lived far away and who played with tigers. GRRRRRRR ....

  5. The PC crowd were trying to get Mark Twain removed from school libraries because of one word. More bullshit.

  6. Hey!!!  I know my mother read us Little Black Sambo a hundred times.  We loved it!

    Stin,

Huckleberry Finn IS banned in public schools.  You would not believe the list of banned books.  God, just thinking about it makes me grind my teeth.

  7. Skipper this brought back some childhood memories. I too remember listening to “Black Sambo” at primary school (Kindergarten?) showing my age I guess. By the way Sambo is a common surname in Ghana apparently. As for the Mexicans. Well I couldn’t see the US or the UK coming out with stamps like those. There would be blood on the streets!

  8. The Racial Pimps get a pass when the use the terms “Gringo”, “Cracker”, “Redneck”, or “Honkey”.  But they get their knickers in a twist over something like this.

    Typical.

  9. Here’s a story that’s disappearing fast from the news services that carried it. Wanna guess why?

  10. Yes I too had that litle book as a child. But in my version the tigers melted into “ghee”, an Indian word for melted butter. Which implies to me that the original version was written by a colonial Brit, and the USA adapted it slightly for their own taste. Sambo I believe is still used as a nickname in Hindustani. Also, tigers are native to India, not Africa.

  11. P.S. Just remembered. Sambo is short for Salammbo. Definitely Indian. By the look of him, I’d say he comes from Tamil Nadu. This PC shit just makes the MBs look stupid.
