  1. We are mastering Wii bowling - at least it’s not public embarrassment & humiliation!  cheese

  2. Well at least we know our fearless leader is over the flu bug thingy.
That score looks almost identical to the immaculate game I had god so many years ago.
    Nice work.

  3. I’d like to give that Wii bowling thing a try. I recall how Wii had to issue a wrist strap when it first came out, as folks were “releasing” the “ball” and throwing the controller into their TV sets. Oops!

It would be interesting to see just how realistic it is. Will stiffer fingers put more rev on the ball? Will it notice if you “pull your thumb out” just before the release? Can it tell whether you turn your hand before or after your arm goes past your opposite ankle? If you’re behind or under the ball? Does the game give you a choice of oil patterns, a selection of balls and drilling patterns, and breakdown in conditions? I’m doubting it, but that would be a superb modeling of the real game, and let you use the Wii as an actual training aid. Also I’m wondering how you manage to slide on the lunge, the last step in your approach, across a carpet. Maybe you need wax paper shoe covers?

  4. Oh Wii is great but yes we’ve come close (and we don’t even have the attachments [paddles, clubs etc yet) - We have hit a few pieces of furniture, each other and such (meanwhile, our disabled son, who purchased the Wii - sits serenely on the couch, flicking his wrist and scoring higher than the rest of us spastic flailing fools).

I’ve come close to whapping the tv while engaging in sword fighting and boxing. I highly recommend the boxing - I end up sweating most times - except the one fight where I got a KO in the first round. After decades of a horrid slice - I’m finally fixing my wrist in the golf - and even make par now and then. And I even score above my perennial 51 in bowling (it was why, after losing to the old German women, I stopped bowling unless I was pregnant). I’ve probably played (at one time or another) every sport - I managed to be ok in basketball and solidly good at pool) but am a klutz and thus never got onto any team what-so-ever.

What we love most about the Wii is that we all can do games together and it does get (most) of us up off the couch.

  5. Looking at this post a day later, I realized I must have made the 1-2 in the 10th. Because
    9/ X X X X X X X 9/ Xs71 is “only” a 257, and I know I scored a 258. Once I saw the 2 pin miss the 10, I turned away. Sometimes pins take time to fall. Guess I missed the headpin going down.

Still, had I struck out the 10th, it would have been a 269. Shoulda woulda coulda. Oh well.
