But not fast enough to outrun an F/A-18 or an F-22.
Or an aim120!
If I were in London, Washington, Bogotá, or Caracas, I would begin paying out of my snout to map the entire length of the Venezuelan-Columbian border (including all routes to an from it, choke-points, strategic locations, etc) as well as trying to find out the locations of every single Russo/Cuban/Bolivia/Ecuadorian/FARC/Venezuelan unit mobilized.
The key to any Latin American war right now is simply to use our greater resources and training to wipe the enemy from the face of the Earth. No questions asked.
Sadly, this is not going to happen.
Perhaps we should start collecting funds for the Columbian and Guyanese militaries? Does anybody have a clear, honest channel to either?
Obama wants to be merciful and forgiving with his foes. Occasionally, this can work. However, in this case, it shall not.
Mercy is a commodity the Western Allies could never afford in the long night from 1911 to 1956.
And the sooner we realize that we cannot afford it either, the sooner we can start fighting.
Personally, I think that the best response to this threat arriving on our doorstep is to bolster our defenses in the neighborhood while cranking up the pressure on Putin’s backyard.
Perhaps it is time we “accidentally” saw the Belarusian oppossition “take” a few tons of military equipment for a full revolt against Lukashenko?
Perhaps it is time for a few “accidents” to happen to Russian, Lukaist Belarusian, Blue Ukrainian, and Abkazhian officials (with a few Bolivian, Venezuelan, Cuban, and Ecuadorians tossed in for good measure)?
Perhaps it is time that we begin aiding the Ukrainians in developing their military (for purely economical reasons, of course) while mysteriously handing promotions and commands only to Orangist leaders?
I can dream, right?
Western Democracy was only saved in 1920 when Poland fought at the gates of Warsaw to save the decadent and socialist-ridden Western Democracies from the Bolshevik Tide.
And Now, Western Democracy may only be saved by the Ukrainians defiantly standing alone at the gates of Kiev to fight to the bitter end for Khmelnytsky’s dream.
Pray to god, for these are times that shall try and ruin men’s souls and their will.
Don’t you just love how Obama has restored international respect for the United States? First the Chinese mess with one of our ships as sea, then the Russians threaten to arm Cuba with bombers? The Russians haven’t placed any arms in Cuba since John F. Kennedy forced them to back down 45 years ago.
The Russians and the Chinese sure have have Obama’s number. Who’s next Lithuania? This is not my idea of international respect. They didn’t even do this to Clinton let alone either of the Bushes or Reagan. Gawd, they didn’t even try it with Carter!
The Cold War worked because each side knew the other was strong. Everyone understood that certain people were not to be messed with. No more. Wars aren’t prevented by weakness, they are prevented by strength.

Yep, pretty much.
Who’s next Lithuania?
Nope, my money’s on the Ukraine, Georgia, of Belarus. The Baltic trio aren’t there yet, though Putin will get to them eventually.

Truer words have rarely been said.
