1. Not a bad video.

One thing that needed to be cleared up, though. It came to mind when that guy from BATF was giving his talk. If one were to actually read the 2nd Amendment, one would see that there is no constitutional provision for the protection of arms for the purpose of hunting or for so called sporting purposes. That isn’t the point of the 2nd Amendment at all. But there IS specific mention of the milita there. What that means is that so called para-military weaponry is specifically protected under the 2nd Amendment, since that is the weaponry that a true militia (and I’m not talking about the National Guard here) would actually use. Yes, those same para-military scawy black rifles that the gun grabbers have their panties all in a wad about, and that the BATF guy was trying to figure out how to define so that they can be banned.

2. Continued…

Yes, they are scawy. They are SUPPOSED to be scawy. If the weren’t scawy, they wouldn’t be a credible deterrent against government run amok.

3. Thanks, MR. C! That was exceptional. What really gets me so mad is that 90% of the gun-grabbers have no basic knowledge of firearms in the way Officer Pyle explained. They condemn what they do not understand. That is a sign of an immature, knee-jerk reaction to media and political propaganda.

For the record, President Reagan and Jim Brady were shot by an asshole carrying nothing more than an ordinary .22 caliber revolver (Rohm RG-14). That technology has been around for over 150 years.

4. OK, Wonderful. We’re using facts, objective demonstrable hardcore things. And just precisely how much does that mean to the Schumers, Kennecraps, Clintoons, and other assorted asswipes in congress? If there is one thing I am getting burned about it is that the law-abiding and objective folks keep trying to reason with unreasonable people and get fu-er.. frustrated.

I am getting to the point of being unreasonable myself.

5. OK folks...I’m asking for your help. For the last couple of months I’ve been thinking about purchasing a firearm, and learning how to use and maintain it, for home defense. What do you folks own, and what would you recommend for someone getting into firearms ownership for the first time!
Heck, I finally went to a gun show three days ago and I was amazed at all the stuff there and how helpful both the merchants and the owners were. And though I didn’t purchase a firearm, I didn’t go home empty-handed either:

So drop me a line with your thoughts/comments, etc. I look forward to the day when I can purchase my very own gun!

6. Macker—I sent you my rambling talk on the subject, I hope it helps. Probably it just muddied the waters. Yes, The High Road is a good site to peruse. You might also want to check out their sister site (which I frequent), The Firing Line (http://www.thefiringline.com). Yes, the folks there are also very patient and willing to help. And yes, you’ll probably get overwhelmed with data, just like THR.

As I said in my ramble, between SWMBO and I we currently have 2 medium frame S&W revolvers and a Taurus PT-92. My current daily carry is a Bersa Thunder .380, which I may decide to upgrade one of these days. Or not, it is actually a pretty good carry piece. And yes, I really do need to get a good shotgun and a decent “militia” rifle, I haven’t decided on which just yet.

7. Brian Tucker, oh where to start?????
all right Ill be gentle the first time, If you use YOUR OWN standards then a cap and ball rifle, bolt action rifle, lever action rifle , etc etc are ALL assault weapons because they were first designed for and used by the military as weapons of war. So all you hunters et al with any firearm in your possesion ,you are in possession of an assault rifle that desperately needs to be banned and taken away from you (for your own safety of course)

8. Terrific video just full of facts
unfortunately Gun Fearing Wussies and libtards don’t deal in facts, they deal in feelings! Just yesterday, here in the Peoples Republic of Maryland (aka, Taxachusetts on the Chesapeake), the State Senate judiciary commitee held hearings on a proposed (by a freshman senator from Montgomery County where ya just can’t get any more nanny liberal) AWB. Gratefully gun owners turned out in force (there were 3x number of people registered to testify than would fit in the chamber). Of course there was the weepy daughter of an FBI agent killed in the line of duty saying would a good thing if there was a AWB. Now I don’t mean to diminish the woman’s sorrow or her loss but sweetie, your daddy was LEO (tho’ some times I wonder how much enforcement the feebs actually get done)and like a soldier, he takes that risk every day he shows up on the job. News did not specify how the agent died; was he killed by a crazy white supremacist wielding a full auto AK or did some doped up member of MS-13 gun him down in an alley with a stolen .38?.

9. Hiya Macker - how did you manage to go through a whole gun show and only buy one tee shirt?!?!?!? No knives? No books? No beef jerky?

Let the controversy begin. While a short barreled pump shotgun is a classic for home defense, the choice of pistol should probably be limited to double action revolvers, unless you practice enough to be very familiar with the automatic.

I bow at the alter of the 1911 pattern 45 as much as anyone. A great pistol design, accurate, reliable, with a proven stopper of a round, BUT semi automatics are more complex to operate than revolvers. Once you are fully familiar with a 45 auto, ok fine, but if you aren’t going to be at least as familiar with it as you are with your less public body parts, stick to something simple to operate.

Give some consideration to Colt, Taurus, Smith and Wesson (depending on your opinion of their politics), and Ruger revolvers. It’s good to buy one chambered in a magnum caliber such as .357 or .44, but use non magnum rounds for home defense. They’re easier to control and may help you a bit with the local prosecutor if you do nail a bad guy. Something like a +P hollow point such as the 38 caliber Winchester Silvertip or the Federal Hydrashok will work very well.

10. Hmmm, a sharpened, fire hardened stick, in the right hands could make an assault weapon. Same thing for fist sized rocks. A 10,000 year old weapon can make you as dead as the latest weapon design. The newer weapon is just much more efficient as the sharpened stick.

11. IMHO the semi auto ak, sks , ar format rifles , mini 14 , and other similarly styled rifles are “ Assault Rifles “ the same way that in the south all pop is “ coke “ be it a pepsi , 7up , sprite, ect..
An assault rifle was originaly an intermediate ctg. ( such as 7.62x39 for ak or 5.56 nato for the ar platform ) rifle with full auto capability . The blissninnys of the world howeaver have traditionaly felt that substance is not as imporntant as appearances when it comes to both canadates and firearms. So we find our selves saddled with the common useage of “ assault rifle “ to describe the way a firearm appears , while ignoring how it functions.
