I’ve always drawn a blank about people who just stand by content to freeze, starve and die while life goes on - doing almost nothing to help themselves.
Yes, I was raised with advantages (i.e. in America that means money) but I had one parent telling me I’d do nothing because I couldn’t, shouldn’t wouldn’t anyway because I should just be grateful I was offered a chance at ‘the good life’ by them stooping down to bring a worthless street child into their home/life. It was hard to overcome that start in life - but when I went to college (private woman’s college) and got almost all As & Bs (ok, only C in my entire college was when I was on crutches for a ‘hands on’ riding course) and when I got my first job - I realized that she was the only voice in my life calling me stupid or incapable (although at the end, my ex joined in gladly - he never has admitted his part in the failure of our marriage - I was stupid, lazy and nuts). It changed my life - and I’ve been all the better for it and even after a couple of strained years - my Mom & I worked out a cooperative, somewhat civil existence.
But even at my lowest and worst times, I never did give up, I kept going and figured out a way out. I can’t imagine giving up. Here we are without employment - and still making it (we have even had a couple of months with money left over) - and still not thrown a single bill away. There is always a way out, something more to do, another angle you haven’t looked at, another strategy.
Giving up is stupid, cowardly and to do it for generations - well I really feel no sympathy for anyone - in this day & age - and yes, while it is totally beyond my concept of ‘religion’ to horde money in a nation of deprivation - now with the ‘gov’ overseeing it - well corruption thy name is politician!
