  1. As good as he looks, never forget, he’s still a Moslem, his country still has a Moslem majority.

I like that he’s made ISIS (or IS or ISIL or whatever) a personal cause, but that may be only because they have personally offended him.  Once they kiss his ring, things may change.  Historically, Jordan’s King and his father were both relatively enlightened and practical as Arab leaders go, but it will be a cold day in Hell before I have serious trust in any Arabic or Moslem leader.

  2. You hafta wonder a bit, what with these ISIS guys declaring a Caliphate, and another Caliphate down there in Africa, and total turmoil all across coastal North Africa that nearly connects them ... should one survive, who will be boss? Sure ain’t gonna be no wild eyed jihad boyz. Another prince of Saud? This Abdullah? Certainly not the joker Asswad. Nor the pretender Obama. And No Go to Bo Ko. Some mullah fugga from Iran? Hmmm.

A hero, warlord king that brings peace and justice to the region, who can calm the western world down ... a true moderate ... he could be a player.

    This could be Survivor, Arabia.

  3. Abdullah has always tried to be an ocean or sanity in a region of insanity ,Sadly, his nation is weak financially and militarilary and he does have to be careful of the same elements that took out Sadat. That said, with the words of El Sisi and with a new regime in Saudia there is a glimmer that the leaders of the faith may, just may, finally see a way to enter the enlightenment that Islam needs to enter the 21st century. Until then, kill the fuckers every chance we get.

  4. Hey fellows .... here’s something else to ponder.

According to the islamic calendar, this is the 15th century. Not the 21st.

  5. Well of course, since time began that day out in the desert. All the thousands of years of civilization before that didn’t really exist. Nor did any other religion. Which is why all those old statues and stuff need to be blown up, right? Because heresy.

But as for the 21st Century, that too is theo-centric. After all, what year is it in Israel?

What about in China? Or in India, do the Hindus keep their own dates? The Vedas are thousands of years old, 4000BC or older, and that was the new turn of civilization; AFAIK India doesn’t use a year number from that point, nor does China count time from when the Han people showed up, but both their civilizations could easily go back 20,000 years. I always wondered why it wasn’t the year 5000 in Egypt today, but it turned out that even though their entire ancient civilization was focused on eternity, they dated local events relative to whoever was pharaoh. Plus, all the actual Egyptians are long gone except for maybe the Copts.

Perhaps the world would be a better place if we could all agree on a calendar not based on some “flavor of the millennium” belief system, but instead on actual time of civilization. Which, unfortunately, varied tremendously from place to place, ebbed and flowed, and almost all records are lost, unreadable, and/or simply not believed anymore. My bet is that the real number of years is mind blowing, easily pre-dating the last glacial age or the one before that. More than likely it’s older than our own sub-sub-species existed. After all, what is time to people who don’t need it? Just some arbitrary number and concept. What, even, is civilization, when a race(s) of creatures can communicate at least locally, and survive in small groups across a nearly empty planet? You don’t need writing, or money, or advanced math, cities or taxes, or kings. But knowledge and culture can be passed across generations forever.
