  1. How long will it be before Americans start using their 2nd Amendment rights in order to keep what rightfully belongs to them?

  2. In the 60’s, the Rouse Company set about buying land in howard County, MD, between DC and Baltimore, to build the city of Columbia. Jim Rouse was a sort of utopianist builder whose vision for a small city was pretty forward looking. Rouse Co. formed dozens of holding companies that went about buying land from individual owners but as the buyers’ names were different, nobody caught on; this prevented people from jacking up the sales price. In the end, they bought up all the land they wanted to get, except 3 or 4 parcels. Then Rouse closed all the holding companies and marched into the County admin offices and announced who he was and that he had just bought 10% (as i recall) of the county.

Columbia was built, and is a thriving community today.

As for the hold out land owners, 2 or 3 eventually sold, at a handsomly higher profit, and one negotiated to live in his home until he died and then the land would be available, which is what happened.

Now, in my mind, THIS is the American way; willing sellers, willing buyers, win win win, everyone is happy enough in the end.

  5. If I were them, I’d have gotten a hold of maybe 50 to 100 lbs of something nasty...radioactive or asbestos or something...and spread it over the whole area of the project and completely innundate my house with it right before they finally hauled me off.

I’d call the news media the next day to let them know the whole site was contaminated with something just so no one could say I put anyone’s life at hazard.

But I’d make them bastards pay thru the nose to clean it up. Double the cost of the project.

After all these folks already got bankrupted to fight to save their homes.

What would they have to lose?

  7. A plan concerning Eminent Domain that I have nurtured for a number of years is this:

The Goverment Agency invoking ED must:

    1. Pay the property owner TWICE the fair market value of the property.
    2. Pay off any existing loans or liens against said property.
    3. Assume responsibility from any taxes (capital gains, etc.) arising from the above transactions.
    but..
4.These conditions would be valid only for 6 months.

This would have some important effects:

    a. Federal, State and local Gov’ts would think twice before invoking ED.
    b. It would save enormous time and trouble; avoiding years long court battles.
    c. The property owners would get a big break; in the case of retired persons, ED could be the best thing that could happen to them.
    d. The city (or state, whatever) would win because who would not jump at the chance of such a deal as this? It would speed and and cheapen any number of projects.

Everybody walks away happy. The only people that lose are the lawyers… but fuck them.
