  1. Putting repeat criminals in jail costs money. After all their thievery only costs the punters and government don’t give a rat’s arse about the individual punters.

The only time jail is a reality is to “make and example” of someone like a Telly licence evader.

Telly licences bring in scads of moola.

Therefore just put one evader in jail for 6 months and thousands of others will fall all over each other to get to the post office to shell out for one.

  2. I know very little about the UK ‘justice’ system. Are judges elected or appointed? Or is it like the States, where local judges may be elected, but federal ones are appointed?

Is there any recourse if a fool becomes a judge? Or a gaggle of fools...?

  3. Not sure CTT,

I’m only in Ireland part time. And I know little about the legal system. I believe the judges in Ireland are appointed only. Never heard of a judge being elected. Usually the appointment is “political”. Sound familiar?

  4. Maybe one day she’ll graduate from shoplifting to breaking and entering.  Maybe she’ll even kill someone during a break-in.

  5. It’s stories like this that make me sympathetic to the Islamic solution to theft: OFF WITH HER HANDS! Then take away any NHS benefits so she can’t get any mechanical replacements.
