A few years back a council in Kensington (one of the most expensive places to live in England) tried to stop the payment of housing benefit to “Dutch” nationals who were originally Somali asylum seekers. The court ruled it would break EU law even though the rules state that “economically inactive” i.e. unemployed people from other EU states are not entitled to housing benefit. Welfare in Britain is at an absolutely obscene level. £96.5 billion. If they told these deadbeats to “sling their hook” we could save a few billion and maybe be able to afford the tools to keep our soldiers alive in Afghanistan.
