Jeez, he’s as old as I am. But I think he got a head start, at least on the music. There was no rock in my house in those days, thank you very much. Not sure if we ever had any kiddie albums either. I have no idea what I got for my 8th birthday, but I’m pretty sure there was a Schwinn Stingray under the Christmas tree a few months later. Candy apple green, 3 speed, slick tire in the back ... best bike ever! And today, GRRRRR, that bike is worth $600. horry clap!
Woah! Since you mention that, I did get a Schwinn Stingray, metallic green with a banana seat. Three-speed gears.
Sisters got Schwinns also, with training wheels. The training wheels lasted about two weeks. Then Mom was all: ‘take your sisters on your bike journeys’.
That caused all kinds of trouble, but Mom was an only child, she had no idea of what she was asking, so I forgive her.
Davey Jones lives here in Florida near Indiantown (a small village near Lake Okeechobee just north of West Palm Beach and just south of where I am in Stuart). He has a horse farm out there somewhere.
My very first rock album was Garry Pucket and the Union Gap, Young Girl. It was stereo. My god it was so cool. Played it to death on a second hand RCA portable record player, portable being the size of a large piece of luggage, but hey I was in heaven. I got a banana seat, 5 speed, stingray style bike… but alas it was a Sears not a Schwinn. Man Christopher you’ve really stirred up some brain dust lol. I was a monkees fan too in middle school I think it was. I thought Daydream Believer was beyond awesome.
You know, grayjohn, we may have to explain ‘record player’ and ‘album’ to our younger BMEWS fans.
FYI, I do have Gary Pucket on vinyl LP.
