A lot of people are also afraid of the slippery slope, with good reason. Bush has shown a consistent contempt for disagreement, even from the right. The barriers between law enforcement and the defense agencies are weakening which means that someday we may face a scenario where NSA spying on terrorists catches purely non-terrorist criminals by accident and that information is legally passed along to law enforcement.
Then there are those like me who are sick to death of the President’s bullshit about moderate Muslims and how this is not a war against Islam. We wouldn’t even be doing this if the President had the cajones to deport all Muslim non-citizens from the country and end the visas for Muslim foreigners.
But you know why he won’t do that? Three major reasons:
1) The Bush family has friends among the Saudi royal family.
2) That would require a hell of a lot of leadership and tough willingness to stand up for himself, something that Bush has not yet done except with people that he and his guys can fire from federal service. He’s allowed liberals to walk all over him, and has never been able to smoothly articulate anything or even understand where his reasonable critics on the right are coming from.
3) It would put a dampener on federal power. If we rounded up and deported all Muslim non-citizens, the feds would have little room to argue for new powers. Why? The odds of a terrorist attack would be significantly lower than what they are even now because all the Muslims would be doing would be rattling their sabres in their desert hellholes. Ooh, look at the pissed off jihdi, ain’t he quaint all 8,000 miles away from America where we can just nuke his ass if he tries anything funny (you can’t do THAT anymore when you let that pissed off jihadi walk around your cities on a student visa).
I applaud this ruling, even though I think that Bush technically can get away with spying on potential foreign combatants because it throws a monkey wrench into his politically correct “Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism” (the girly man’s “War on Terror"). It actually forces him to make some tougher choices if he wants to keep going. We need the emperor to either put his clothes on or at least have the integrity to walk around naked in public with confidence.
Muslim “democracy” has been a joke so far. It’s going to stay that way until Islam as a religion gets put to the sword. Let’s stop the feel good crap, that is so common with the Bush Administration and its NRO and Weekly Standard type supporters. The war against Islam is not going to be won by the NSA. It is going to be won by kicking the entire potential fifth column known as Muslim immigrant community out of our country, locking the door behind them and sending our military in with rules of engagement that the Romans and Mongols would recognize. I would start with dropping a large bunker buster on the Ka’ba in Saudi Arabia (the holiest mosque in Islam, in Mecca).
Sorry, but Bush reminds me too much of that weakling pussy Olmert in Israel who kills not even 1/6 of Hezbollah’s fighters, cripples his country’s deterrant effect and declares victory while screwing his own people over.
Excellent idea!!!!!!!!!! Because Bush doesnt round up all the towelheads, deport them, and not allow any into the country (an easy task) we should do away with what defense we do have. Brilliant!!!!!!!
Somehow, I think the NSA (and CIA, etc) can tell this loonie libnut, and her other pro-terrorist and anti-American ACLU and lamestream mediot allies to go pound sand and kiss their collective buttocks, when push comes to shove over National Security.
Feelings hurt? Boo-friggin’-hoo, go watch a soap opera…
The barriers between law enforcement and the defense agencies are weakening which means that someday we may face a scenario where NSA spying on terrorists catches purely non-terrorist criminals by accident and that information is legally passed along to law enforcement.
And this a problem how exactly? As a former law enofrcement officer, I can tell you with certainty that this kind of thing has been done and continues to be done to this day - all in the name of maintaining effective law enforcement. I’m not saying that it makes it right, but it sure makes a lot of people sleep better at night knowing John Q. Criminal isn’t around, looking to do them harm. But the fact of the matter is that many of these Muslim terrorists ARE engaged in criminal enterprises (aside from terrorism) and associate (at least occasionally) with your so-called “non-terrorist” criminals. To think that the mandate for the use of warrantless or post facto warrant wiretapping was simply to observe one facet of terrost activities is simply naive and short-sighted.
And I’m sure I’ve said this more times than are necessary: If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about with the NSA wiretapping. Not sure where people are getting the idea that there is some freaking MIB sitting in darkened room (or satellite van) hanging on every word they say over the phone. To think of the manpower neccessary to pull that kind of feat off is simply staggering. Sheesh! Put away the tinfoil already…
1) The Bush family has friends among the Saudi royal family.
Um, I’m sure the Bush family are far from being the only politicians that have “friends” that are little Middle Eastern or a little shady in some other way.
Otherwise, I agree with you totally about giving all domestic and incoming Moosies the boot.
One more comment and I’ll stand down from this topic here.
1st - a great link on the ruling: http://baseballcrank.com/archives2/2006/08/warlaw_the_nsa.php
2nd - this link sums up my feelings about the 9/11 consiracy whackos...: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=911_morons
...which leads to my “ultimate” proof against those who feel ol’ G.W. is just trying to invade everyone’s privacy with the NSA wiretaps. Where in the hell are all the folks whose privacy he is violating?!? Surely we would have heard about the all the innocent folks he is targeting, rounding up, and throwing into his secret gulags by now...right? Right?
Oh yeah, like we really have any defenses when we haven’t even stopped allowing new potential foreign combatants into our country. Since people seem to like WWII comparisons, this would be akin to allowing thousands of germans and japanese of military age to come study in America during the height of the war.
What Bush is doing can’t even remotely be considered a defense. It’s nothing more than harassment and sticking his head in the sand.
What Bush is doing!!!What Bush is doing… Do you or anyone else think letting foreign students in this country only started during Bush’s term? Wrap that tin foil real tight and eat a bowl of peanuts in the process. I personally am sick and tired of BDS. To Quote the line in Snakes On A Plane GET THESE MOTHER F***ING LIBERALS OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!”.
