  1. "Of unknown provenance”.... so.... does that mean it doesn’t matter where it actually came from, as long as you can claim its derivation is racial?

  2. Next up will be “welsh”, as in “welsh” on a bet. Don’t get your “irish” up about it though. Anyone charged with such an offense will get off “scott free”.

    Silly Limeys.

  3. > Romany activist Maggie Bendell-Smith said: ‘I would have been right up on my feet
    > if I’d heard that in court, asking the judge to justify his choice of words.
    >
    > ‘It is derogatory and I think an apology is called for.’

And the Judge would have been within his rights to tell this moron to sit down and shut up in his court.

In fact, that’s what he should tell these armchair-quarterbacking accusers now, in no uncertain terms:  “Why don’t you and your cries of racism go play ‘Hide and go Fuck yourselves?”

Tiger [ Who is completely and utterly fed up with shit like this. ]

  4. completely and utterly fed up with shit like this.

Don’t know how bad it is in the USA right now Tiger, but how’d ya like to see this sort of thing almost every day as it is here.

They find something new to be “offended” by with frightening frequency.

Grumps and Drew. You have it right.
Hey, I’m aware we have a few nut cases on the right but man oh man these lefty libtards keep coming up with stuff unheard and unthought of only a few yrs ago. And it just gets crazier and crazier..  I hope it isn’t this bad back home. Yet.  ??

  5. Peiper:  Here in Canada, we’re ahead of the States (but behind England) in the preponderance of this kind of crap that is an offense to liberty.  That’s why my tolerance (hah!) level for this stuff is so low.

However, there is hope.  We’re starting to see some grass-roots pushback, partially inspired by Ezra Levant’s crusade against the HRC’s/HRT’s (Human Rights Commissions/Human Rights Tribunals) in the various provinces and at the Federal government level.  Some well meaning soul in the 70’s pushed for the creation of these things to ensure that people weren’t unlawfully discriminated against, and they’ve since morphed into bad jokes of their former selves, issuing decisions with court authority that just blow the minds of anyone sensible.

From 2006, I give you this article if you wish to read up on this more:  What could Mark Steyn’s punishment look like? Look at Alberta (Mark Steyn has since beat the charges he was facing, but as Ezra has noted, the process itself is the punishment, with defense costing you approximately $100,000 while the complainant that launched the process pays nothing, and the prosecution in the HRC/HRT kangaroo court is all taxpayer funded.) Further, the HRC/HRT’s don’t have to abide by long established court rules, they play fast and loose, and yet their judgements and proclamations carry the weight of a court.  That’s just wrong.

  6. Sorry, 2008, not 2006.  I plead “first of the morning, not enough coffee” syndrome.
