Japan defies the critics to hang four killers.  (Bravo Japan but it took too damn long)

  1. Inmates do not know when they will be executed until the morning it happens. Executions take place in secret, and lawyers and family are only notified after the fact.

And the problem with this is? I have friends and family in Japan. I don’t know much about the country, but one thing I do know is the police are very effective at catching criminals. Japanese people are by Western standards extremely honest. One of my friends lost his wallet in the street. It was given back to him with nothing missing a few days later. How often would that happen in Britain or the US? He rides a bicycle and never bothers to lock it because there is no need.

Not that they don’t have problems. They have their own gangsters and as they become more like the West I expect crime will rise but overall they seem to have a better way of doing things. Mind you if the British public were ever given the opportunity to restore the death penalty they would give overwhelming approval. Unfortunately our membership of club EU prevents this and in any event our elected representatives know better than the ignorant public.

  2. Last year saw 15 convicts executed – the most since 1975 when 17 were hanged.

Human rights groups including Amnesty International have protested against the rise.

So? Hang the “Human Rights” people who protest. Where were they when th perps committed their crimes? Ptheh.

  5. You guys are great, no kidding. Love those remarks and funny even if you didn’t mean em to be funny. But you’re right.

cmBlake ... RIGHT and I’ve been saying that since forever.  Those creeps stick their collective nose in things because they know ahead of time that there will be no reprisals or killings, maiming etc. So they are safe to continue.

Lyndon’s remark about Japanese (in general) honesty is something I noticed as well when I was there years ago. Isn’t it weird that a society that is basically so polite, a people who can create gardens of such tranquil beauty, can also be so unreasonably brutal in war.

I once had a chance to test the French re. honesty.  Didn’t leave a wallet behind tho.

Wife and I had occasion to spend about three days in Paris (20yrs ago) and one other place over there.
Before the trip we received a 35mm camera for sitting through an interesting sales pitch for real estate share thing.  We declined of course but they gave us this very cheap camera.  Pile of junk really but when we came overseas I took it along with my other regular Canon.  Well, the crappy one had problems and the back wouldn’t close properly, hard to thread film etc. and I thought to throw the damn thing away in a bin.

So, we were in a cafe (lousy coffee) and stale pastery.  I decided to leave the cheap camera behind and left it on the table as tho I’d forgotten it. We walked out and not one person there came after us to say we’d forgotten something.

One thing that was a shocker and I was informed it was typical and taken as a matter of course over there ... ppl weren’t too modest about what they did with their hands in public.  Granted it was just one guy that one time.  We were walking down the street
and this guy had a hand inside an open zipper scratching himself.  Looked gross but somebody told us when we mentioned it, oh they said.  That’s pretty normal.  ????
I think he was putting us on.  Normal?

  8. It’s difficult to advocate killing someone in cold blood, but sometimes you come across an individual who needs to be permanently removed from society.  Not locked up in prison with all his needs paid for by the rest of us, but truly, completely, totally, irrevocably removed.  In other words, execution.

There aren’t that many individuals who will ever qualify for such an extreme action, but I’d say that someone who has intentionally burned people to death is well qualified for execution.

Amnesty International will never bother with events in Darfur or Somalia, that might actually expose them to some sort of danger, or at least the requirement that they get their manicured nails dirty.  Amnesty International never did a d*mn bit of good against the People’s Republic of China, North Korea, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, or any other pest hole where murder and mutilation are commonplace and help is actually needed.  No, they will go after the civilized democracies of the world who are keeping their societies secure from the rabid trash.  They will protest and file motions, get headlines and generally embarrass people who have consciences and a real interest in having a good and just society in the first place.  And why shouldn’t they?  Good money, nice headlines telling the world how wonderful they are, lots of perks, no actual work or responsibility.  How can I get a job like that?
