Hey .... great. Thought you’d be gone a week based on a comment last week.
Wires in place? Ceiling? Good grief Drew, what are you planning?
Are you raising the wall plugs at desk level for PC and other electronics?
No, but I want things the way I want them. Not every wall has a cable socket or even a phone jack, and those are must-haves these days. I can probably get by with the less-than-modern number of power outlets; there seem to be enough so far. But I want my stereo in the right spot.
HOLY CRAP.
We just detached the built in oak bookcases that were built on the wall around the fireplace. We want the stereo to go there; the fireplace is closed off anyway. The walls behind the bookcases are PINK. Horry Clap, that means the whole living room was once pink. And I mean pink. Plastic baby doll pink. YUCK. PEW. ICK. PHEW. BLEEECCCH!!
The good news is that there was power back there. And cable. No phone, big deal. Which means I can power the stereo and hook up the HDTV, which at 4 feet wide, sits beautifully between the bookcases.
This is going to ruckin fock.
Try not to have a cultural orgasm on these pages Drew, Although at this point I do thing you earned a good one.
"so it’s going to be a bit of ceiling work for me” . . . and here I thought we were the only ones who did stuff like that. Son does all wifi - hubby does all wires (here, there and everywhere).
Moving is such a cruel b*tch when you are a tech geek and houses are about 25 years behind the curve. [Maybe it’s just this area - we were talking about how there are NO national bank chains, Direct tv comes via KY offices, I have never seen a Dish, Time Warner or Comcast office and of course Kroger (union) dominates the grocery market - the unions have strangled this part of OH and they wonder why there are NO Jobs. I talked to a woman at PT on Friday - she went to Veterans Job Fair at Paul Brown stadium with her daughter - you must go, they pay your parking fee! - and what did they come away with - Yes, that’s right NO JOB but hey, she learned about all the bennies she can get from Uncle Sam via gimmie, gimmie, gimmie Obama].
Oh well, now the fun begins - unpacking and trying to fit all the stuff into a new place.
I keep hoping we can get the hell outta dodge and get to a place where sane minds and common sense rule. Maybe after Nov 6th - things will get better.
Well, I too am a wired, not wireless fan. My biggest problem is our house is 1/2 basement, 1/2 slab. So the main hallway looks like the main utility pole in Chinatown - network, cable, and telephone.
And I’d like to point out - “Professional installation” does not mean installation that is pleasing to the eye - it just means it works. I’d like to thank DirecTV and the local cable company for the four sets of wires running into my house through various holes.
One day I will attempt pulling up the base boards and running the wires there to the outlets - which will be at least 4 ports (cable, telephone, network, stereo).
Until then, watch your head!
