  1. Harrowing ordeal Skipper.  Glad you made it through unscathed.

Were you able to ascertain the status of significant ‘cultural landmarks’ in East St Louis by any chance?

  2. C’mon, Skipper - it was just a good ol’ fashioned midwest thunderstorm.  Less than two miles away from you, milady and I (and our dog) were sitting on the sun porch sipping beverages and enjoying the show.  We didn’t realize the widespread damage it was causing at the time, but we really enjoyed the show!...(where are the smileys, did the storm blow them away?)…

  3. LOL  cheese  confused rasberry cool smirk  shock

    So, there! GKERN!

I’m glad somebody had a ringside seat. I wish I’d been there with you instead of in the ring with the lions, tigers, bears, and bearded ladies!

    big surprise

  4. FOC: the city’s landmarks made it through safely. A good percentage of the local trees however are now matchsticks. We got the worst of it in West St. Louis (Manchester, Ballwin, Ellisville). We’ll survive. Until next time. Hehehehe ....

  5. Skipper,
Glad to hear you made it through unscathed. (unlike the beer) Those Midwest storms came as a real shock to me coming from temperate Britain. The way the weather went from sunny to all hell let loose within minutes could be quite frightening. In the UK we get thunderstorms once in a while but nothing on the scale you get out there. Shame about the damage to the trees.

  6. I’m with “gkern”, Just a good ole fashion thunder boomer!
I live in southeastern Taxachusetts. The front passed thru here between 8 PM and midnight last night.
First wave around 8 was a nice show, but a little far to the north to do anything close.
Between 10:30 and 11 though, the main artilery cut loose! The wife and I sat on the swing on the front porch until about 11:30 watching the fireworks. What a show! The rain that followed the light show was sorely needed around here. I hate when grass crunches under foot.
I do realize that some people may have sustained some property damage, and that is regretable. However, I have heard nothing about any personal injuries related to the storms, and that’s the up side.
Stiff upper lip Skipper. It’ll all come out in the wash.

  7. *hears talk of thunderstorms and gets homesick*

Don’t see any good boomers here in Maine like we did back home in Kentucky. And Maine’s idea of a heat wave is 90 degrees. NINETY! Back home that was a SPRING day. SUMMER brought along 95+ with heat index of 100, followed the next day by temps hovering around 100 or higher.

*grumbles about living in a blue state*

  8. Oh no Skipper!  That’s why it’s turning dark outside!  You sent it here!

Actually we got one Thursday night where all we got was a high gust of wind and the power was out from 6pm till 230 the next morning.  Those summer storms are some mean buggers!

  9. Good to hear you made it through OK, Skipper.

Toto, we aren’t in Kansas anymore…

Parts of the NE got a good taste of the tempest, in my part of NH, things were fairly non-eventful, just a light show and some deep rumbles, most of the NE action was in the southern half of Mass, roughly following the Mass Pike (I-90).

I was working out at the gym in Peterborough yesterday afternoon, the TV sets had the golf event with Tiger Woods on, then that got called due to the inclement weather, the channel then switched to showing the movie “The Mummy”.

From the 90s yeaterday to 60s and damp today, what a change… cool cheese

  10. It is much cooler here today and for that I’m grateful. News reports say there were no actual storm-related deaths in the mess last Saturday. There were a lot of traffic accidents but no major injuries. All told, we came out OK - minus a few hundred trees.

Thanks fer all your well wishes. Maybe this will signal the winding down of summer? I certainly hope so. I needs some cool weather!

    LOL

  11. We’ve FINALLY gotten some decent rain here!
Yeah-the gutter leaks into the den ceiling when it rains hard and is causing the ceiling to start to rot-no money to fix it at the moment-but a least we’re getting RAIN!!
Better late than never I say.
By the way-I’m off “hiatus” because of a “cartoon” that sent me through the roof. My writing sucks but check it out anyway. smile

  15. See - I knew what had happened to our Almighty Leader - see post on Sunday........Here it is Monday eve & my son has come to spend the night as his apartment complex has again lost power here in West St. Louis County - says it won’t be restored until sometime Tuesday.......
Bravo for our St. Louis County Executive Dooley for providing free cleanup of all fallen tree limbs from Saturday’s storms.............
The area next to my home is an easement with many tree limbs overhanging close to my house - these trees are dangerously close to my house & I am concerned that any one of these tree limbs could break off during the type of storm we had last Saturday - I have researched this at the County Municipal Office to find out who would take care of this - since no one would oblige me - not AmerenUE, MSD, SBC, my subdivision trustees, etc., I will have to bite the bullet & hire an arborist to cut back the offending trees.........I guess a couple hundred dollars would be better than thousands if a tree fell on my house & I had to make a home insurance claim...........AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH - the price we have to pay as a homeowner!!!!!!!!!
