Dang. I miss bowling...my back is so frakked up.
I haven’t bowled in many years. I took bowling in high school in an eight lane place that still had pin boys. I was taught to throw a strait ball, a four step approach and the ball over the second arrow. By the end of the semester my average was 153.
Next came a bowling class in college (isn’t American education great). I used the same mechanics and boosted my average into the low 160’s. I never did much bowling afterwards but enjoyed watching it on television. My highest game ever, after leaving school, was a 229. People would tell me if I owned my own ball and got used to it I could boost my average by 10 pins.
Sometimes I would try and throw a curve but either through lack of practice or ineptitude I never figured out how to make it work. Anyway I have a question. Does anyone still use a strait ball, and if so what are the best averages of people who do?
Haven’t bowled since 2001. I was a patient at the local VA and had use of the VA’s bowling alley. I also had use of their gym IF someone was there to open it.
My favorite bowling memory is the time I took my then girlfriend (now my wife of 21 years) and her youngest son bowling. I hadn’t bowled in several years, and they’d never bowled. So what did I do?
“I haven’t bowled since the Navy…” I told them.
Of course, I bowled a strike on the first ball!
They both looked at me and said ‘Right!’
Honest, that had never happened before, and has never happened since.
As a Veteran, I still have free access to the VA’s bowling alley. But it’s a long drive and my schedule conflicts with my wife’s.
