All well and good to integrate fellow citizens who had been segregated previously, but we’ve been doing that for two full generations now. Forced integration may have worked for a while, but school populations are based on the people who live in those neighborhoods, and if people persist in “enclaving” then you are going to wind up with de facto segregation. I don’t like it, but there is nothing wrong with it because it wasn’t enacted by governmental mandate; it was the people’s choice in moving to those areas. In this day and age NOBODY can say that their type of people aren’t allowed to live anywhere they can afford to. Nobody.
Now, when it comes to integrating vast millions of people who should not be here, that’s a different story. That kind of integration would be capitulation. Throw them out instead, and yes we can so do it if we choose to. No anchor babies, no extended family lasso rights, no amnesty. Law applied unto the second generation - so if mami and papi snuck in, little Raul has to go too. Tough shit, bye bye. Close the borders to everyone.
As for vastly different religions, what if we actually defined what a religion is or isn’t? If it calls for killing people who don’t believe exactly as you do, or blood sacrifice of any kind to appease your god then it’s a “Hate Philosophy” (far worse than a “Hate Crime"). Not allowed. You want to worship electric Martian banannas? Fine by me unless the tenets call for purging the world of all non-banannistas.
Drew, your argument of population-created enclaves doesn’t wash in today’s fluid, dynamic society. A neighborhood that is predominantly white today may be mostly black next year and mostly Hispanic the year after that. People in our modern society move around much, much more than previous generations. They follow the jobs and the money. They do not take race in the new city or town into consideration. For a high six-figure salary, I’d live next to Osama Bin Laden and most people feel the same way. I would however keep a wary eye on his back yard.
A school district that decides on a specific quota in September may find their quota out of whack in January. It’s a Brave New World and we need to adapt to it. The affirmative action laws of the 1960’s are outdated and strangling. Not just whites but blacks, Hispanics, Asians and even Native Americans.
All I’m saying is that it is time to just forget trying to manage and control the ingredients going into the “melting pot” and just stir up the stew and let’s all eat up.
BTW, I agree 100% with your concept of defining religion. You echo what the Pope has been saying for the last several months - violence has no place in ANY religion and any so-called “religion” that advocates violence against unbelievers is no religion at all but is only a cult based on hate-speech.
Perhaps, a re-enactment of Waco at a few radical Mosques would get the point across. Perhaps not. Personally, I prefer just telling the IRS to remove tax-exempt status from any “church” where violence is preached. Hit them in the pocketbook. It works every time.
I still get misty eyed when I hear or read Dr. King’s words. They are an ideal that I still cherish. To me Dr. King and his words represent an era and a philosophy of liberalism that I still believe in - it’s just called conservatism these days.
Dr. King’s dream of judging men and women by their own, personal qualities without regard to any racial criteria and the current reality of racial quotas, who can and can’t use the dreaded “N” word, the overt bigotry that I have experienced from many black people (yeah, I’m a honky, with blue eyes), the bullshit rhetoric that comes from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, the entire concept of race relations as practiced by the MSM, the Democrat Party and so many others ad nauseum runs counter to any concept of equality and equal opportunity as I learned it from my parents and Dr. King.
How do we restore the Dream? Will the Supreme Court finally rule that any race based quota is unconstitutional? Can popular opinion finally hear and respond to the message that Dr. King preached 40 years ago?
Drew, the ulitmate problem from the Islamofascists is not that it will be difficult to defeat them, the ultimate problem is that in stopping them we will be setting racial and religious relations in our country back by generations. That damage to our country will in many ways be a more terrible burden than all the dead and maimed of the conflict.
I remember the sign at the entrance to Fort Dix, NJ, when the buses carrying us into basic training, in July of 1969.
The sign read something like: Welcome to the U.S. Army, Fort Dix, New Jersey, the World’s First Equal Opportunity Employer.
There was no racial or ethnic prejudice, we were all equally treated like
from that point on, until graduation. Being a buck private E-nothin’ had no perks nor privelieges…
And then one of the bigger, tougher, and meaner (and yes, the best) Black drill sergeants gave all the new Black recruits “hell on earth”, including frequent use (and abuse) of the dreaded “N” word. Any white rectruit who dared to crack a smile or laugh was “black for a day” and recieved the same treatment. I won’t go into the details of that speech. It was truly unforgettable, but you had to be there to fully appreciate it.
After all that, we were told, “There is no black, no white, no yellow and no brown. You are all U.S. Army Olive Drab Green from now on, and don’t you ever forget it”.
It doesn’t get any more “equal” than that… We all started out at the bottom, and everybody had to work their way up from there…
Fuck them Skip. still lookin for smiley
The Bitch,

GOOD GRIEF! Who let that anonymous goober in here?
Anon reminds us that every family has a crazy Aunt in the attic. Ah well......
Skipper, I’ve seen enclaving. Its real and its there. A lot of it is FOBs (fresh off the boat) first generation immigrants, but a lot of it is people who just want to live where they feel “comfortable”. They can be any color and speak any language. As dynamic as the real estate market is, it isn’t that dynamic. Once an area starts to swell with a certain group’s presence, it will take quite a few years for it to go the other way even if they all decide to leave. 6 to 10 years isn’t much in adult terms, but it’s nearly your entire life at school.
I’d posit a thesis that the house builders building only high-end homes limits enclaving, but in suburban areas that are already fully built up you will see it more. Absolute case in point is Edison NJ, a nice working class town that is now Little India. Haverstraw NY is another example; you won’t find much Enlgish spoken there anymore. These kind of areas are not nearly as fluid as you might think. The old expression “birds of a feather” does have some merit after all. Granted we are a very flexible society compared to some other countries, but you and I are looking at the same situation from opposite extremes. You’re seeing the fluidity, I’m seeing the clumping effects.
I’m not in favor of it, but I do know that clumping exists. My point was that schools that try to run by the numbers are only fooling themselves, and I don’t feel forced busing is a valid answer. Give everyone vouchers and every kid is going to go to the best school within commutable range. That is only a partial answer - it gets kids away from poorly taught schools, but only a year at a time. It does nothing to FORCE diversity. It’s the forcing that I’m objecting too. No matter what my school board would have preferred, there were NO Native Americans, Laplanders, South Africans, or American Somoans in my high school because there were none to be found in the county!
Fluidic or clumped notwithstanding, any school that is setting a race based quota at any time is wrong. Run whatcha brung, fight with the army you have, teach the children who live in your area the best that you can. Forcing diversity where little or none exists is not the answer, even though it might feel like the right thing to do at the time.
Oh, and anonymouse? I can just barely see your point, if you were the extreme minority and dealing with some people who were playing “it’s my time”. This guy may be a troll, just leaving simplistic leftist remarks supposed to show up us white folk as racists because we have the gaul to discuss the issues. But while I agree with the Skipper that white racism is largely (not completely, but mostly) a bygone thing, Black racism is not. And that’s where anyonymouse has a point, albeit a very small and poorly expressed one. That’s the next step we need to deal with, but that “we” is more from that group’s inside than from our outside looking in. Other groups have their prejudices too. It’s a long road to travel, but putting any and every form of forced government mixing behind us is a good step. I would remove the Check Race box from all forms at schools, job applications, etc. It really doesn’t matter, so let’s stop wasting time going on about it.
I think one action certain blacks could take is to stop calling each other ‘Niggers.’ They have a double standard when they do this, and this incenses me and I’m sure a lot of you too.
