I’m not going to pick nits that “kickback” (recoil) is not a side to side motion, but the AK rifles do tend to seriously flex their barrels under rapid or automatic fire. This severely limits accuracy.
The AK-74 cartridge gets a big “meh” from me, as it was a 22 caliber job that attempted to compete against the 5.56 NATO round. The original 7.62x39 cartridge is much more potent at short to medium range, although given barrels of equal diameter, the one with the .224” bore would be stiffer than the one with the .312” bore. Stiffer means more accurate.
Wildcatting the 7.62 case to be a low taper 6.5mm or 7mm with steeper shoulders gives more power than either the -47 or the -74 cartridge, gives much better long range performance from an equal bullet weight compared to the AK-47, and produces a bit less recoil than that 7.62 round when using bullets of equal sectional density. Ammo weighs about the same, but requires a magazine with less of a banana bend.
