  1. The addition of the ANG’s A-10 planes with those tank-bustin’ GAU-8 would be a nice deterrent too. Don’t just send rounds or missiles up their butts...slice & dice ‘em instead!

  2. Good one, Bob! Unfortunately, it almost sounds like it could be true!

  3. Too real, Bob, and too true.

When I first heard about this, Skipper, I had the same thought about Apache helos. I’m sick of futzin’ around with these bastards. A couple of A-10s might not be such a bad idea either. Perhaps a demonstration run or two might be in order.

It’s time to rock the boat and demand that something be done. I’m sick of this shit. I’m firing off an email to my congresscritter. I don’t care if Vincente Fox does have compromising pics of Dubya milking that stallion that Laura was talking about, it’s past time that he did something about this shit. The Dems are gonna jump on this for the 2006 and 2008 elections and I don’t blame them.

  4. Too bad the pilot couldn’t have set the A-Star down on a few of them whilst he was at it!

OCM… Where do I sign up?

  5. I’ve been resistant to the use of the Guard to patrol the borders. Maybe it was because O’Reilly has been beating that drum so enthusiastically, maybe it’s because it might approach being illegal under Posse Commitatus, I dunno.

I’m now beginning to change my mind about that. Perhaps if the border state governors actually did activate their Guard units for border patrol duties it would put the whole thing on a higher level and push the Feds to finally do something real about the situation. I do know that we can’t continue along the same path as we have been going.

  6. Oh, there’s another consideration to the use of the Guard. Those people have regular day jobs. Taking them away from those jobs is not a good thing for them or the economy as a whole. As I have said before they should only be used as a temporary stop-gap measure while other organizations are being spun up to solve the problem.

  7. Yep, there are Guard units in Iraq that have been Federalized. We’ve been seeing a lot of that after the draw down the active duty military to collect the “peace dividend”. Much of the talent went to Guard units and reserve units. Now that they’re needed they’re being activated. This is exactly what happened when the Korean war broke out. Harry activated Reserve units full of guys who had fought WW2 rather than put raw recruits from the regular Army and Marines in as cannon fodder.

I dunno how many units the several border states have or if their primary missions would support border patrol. It seems to me that an MP unit would be of more use in that application than a supply unit, if you know what I mean.
