They are of the impression that Freedom of Speech begins and ends with them. They are going to try to enforce that impression.

I understand where Jacoby is coming from, but “we are all Danes now” is bullshit in my book.
WE haven’t bent over and let these prick psychobastards scare the crap out of our citizenry and elected officials the way Europe has over the last ten or more years. While I hate seeing it happen, part of my mind wants to see those Euro-weenies get the shit smacked out of them so they’ll finally open their eyes. This has nothing to do with those cartoons; they are just a convenient excuse for a war anyone not blind could see was coming and what is playing out now is the opening round.
There’s a reason all that chaos is going on over there, and none of it is showing up here. The EU had shown the enemy they are gutless wonders who will tolerate that shit, while if they tried the same tactics here they know they’d get shot down in the streets and we’d unleash our dogs to gnaw on their bones after we put them on the floor… and we’d be quick to turn around and shoot the first public official who told us we had to respect those pricks because of their “cultural differences” from our natural, national interests.
The one good thing that could come out of this is that the whole “multicultural” PC horseshit is exploding right in front of everyone’s eyes, showing how hollow that theory is in practice when one “culture” is operating on the idea of “we want to kill you, infidel” and the other one--as per our ivory tower academics--says “we need to understand them.”
No, I don’t. I need to shoot the first son of a bitch who pulls that shit in front of my face.

Well stated, TC! Especially the part about the multicultural PC horseshit. The sooner that entire charade is consigned to the memory hole of the hells, the better.
The problem, Penguin, is that many here are pandering to them. CNN digitally blurred the cartoons when they presented the story and, as Jacoby points out, damn few MSM outlets have published the cartoons.
Does anybody remember how close Canada came to allowing sharia law to be implemented there?
Remember, this is the Boston Globe… One of the left-most “newspapers” in the country.
Jeff Jacoby is their token “conservative” (at least in a relative scale), but even Hillary would be considered a Rock-Ribbed Republican within the hallowed halls of that publication

In an earlier posting, there was a call for practical suggestions on how to defeat these people. My answer—the same way we defeated Communism & the USSR. Slowly and painfully, not asking every 5 minutes “have we won yet?” Yes, kill them when necessary. When they bodily attack us—and only the ones who are actually doing it.BE ENCOURAGED, for the long run. Their system does not work!! Ours does. Pick fights we can win.

Although, I am finding it amusing to listen to people complain about how long it is taking for the ‘good Muslims’ to stand up and reclaim their religion of peace (as if watching them dance in the streets on 9/11 didn’t offer a peek into their mindset). Oink, it’s probably one of my posts that you remember. I would like to see an answer that doesn’t involve mass (or even singular) murder. I don’t think that the Islamists will give us that chance. Violent rhetoric is unpleasant, violent acts against innocent people (Ward Churchill’s theories aside) is intolerable. There may be a billion Moslems in the world. There are then 7 billion non Moslems. Bad odds if you’re a Moslem and the other 7 folks around you have had enough of your shit. In the long run, their system DOES work. It just doesn’t allow for the growth of knowledge, wealth, freedom, and spirituality that we consider our natural right. An Islamist thinks that living in a mud hut under Sharia is as good as it gets, the rest of us don’t.
DrJ: I heard the same talk about Communism being “efficient” and “allowing for full employment” and “creating goods for use, not profit”. I was told that South Africa was too tough and stubborn to fold under pressure. The Irish had been slaughtering each other for centuries and would never quit. All Bullshit.
If the Islamicists had left us alone, they were welcome to continue living in their theocratic whorehouse. They didn’t, because the example of our freedom and wealth was too much for them to tolerate. They felt that, just by being, we are a threat to their continued existence, well before we struck back militarily. And they are right.
The Islamic countries are in last place, militarily,economically, scientifically and creatively. Not only dead last, but there is a huge gap between them and the next-to-last. And that’s with the geological accident of having oil!
They are the Neanderthal looking at the Cro-Magnon—doomed. How many of us will they kill before they collapse is the only question. The worst case: they use those non-existent WMDs on a large scale—nerve gas, biologicals, nukes—and we slaughter them by the millions. Even the French would join in.

Oink, I really wish that I could disagree with your basic position. For our culture to survive, we will have to do many things that don’t always sit well with our core values, but then, survival is the most important core value of all.
About the only area I can disagree with you is your comparison of Communism and Islam. The Communists wanted to be economically, socially and culturally dominant - the prime drivers of civilization as we know it. Communism as a system, is based on dysfuntional concepts and therefore can’t compete against a system based upon faith and self interest. The Communists, in theory at least (don’t take this to mean that I approve of or like Communism) wanted to create a rich, utopian society, an Islamist only wants to kill or enslave anyone who doesn’t agree with him. The success of the Islamists doesn’t require them to be successful as we understand it, not even as the Communists understand the idea of success. For an Islamist to consider himself successful, he must only destroy others while surviving himself. In many cases, he doesn’t even have to survive. He is even more alien to us than the Communists were.
DrJ: All comparisons break down, eventually. It was considered a stale bromide to say, “You know, Communism is kinda like a religion!”. But it was true. Islam has no concept of separation of Church and State; it is a total blueprint for every aspect of your life. Not at all like Christianity, which can be as successfully lived in an Arctic Igloo as a Manhattan Penthouse.
Islam & Communism are both utopian visions of Heaven on Earth, and like all such schemes they produce Hell on Earth. Read Keostler’s essay in “The God that Failed” about the joy of conversion—all doubts are resolved, all questions answered.
Recall the Rosenbergs, how they both went to death willingly, leaving two young sons, for the God Communism.
