  1. These sheep shaggers should keep in mind that a “katusha” rocket or mortar round are no match for a 16 inch Naval Shell or USAF MOAB

  2. i have long wondered why our navy ships have not been attacked more often.

as the Cole attack showed they are very vulnerable in port - although probably less so now. and when close to shore they make big targets for portable rockets which can be fired from concealed positions.

perhaps i underestimate the difficulties of an attack. i hope so.

  3. I just thank God my son is back in Norfolk, having finished his sea duty for now.........The last few years he was in the Gulf on the Destroyer Briscoe (at the time when the Cole was hit) & the USS Enterprise (2004) & I didn’t worry as much as some Mom’s & Dad’s whose Navy/Army/Marine kids are land based in the Gulf region.  Now, however, Mike has re-upped & will be headed toward OCS, which means at some point he will go back to sea duty - I only pray that the War will be over by that time.............

  4. The 16 inchers are mothballed or in museum status now, RP, more’s the pity. There is a movement afoot to bring them out again but the Navy doesn’t want them back. Their reluctance is mostly due to manning personnel and refurbishment costs at a time when we can only build one sub a year and people are trying to kill off new ship design and building projects (think DDX). Then there’s the fact that the hulls are more than 60 years old.

Didn’t they realize that the USS Kearsarge has hospital facilities aboard that are second only to hospital ships? Those guys would have been able to save that Jordanian soldier if there was any hope at all and they were right there.
