  1. I think what you call infilling is what we call flag lots. Not all towns allow them.

Glad you are feeling better ... but I am STUNNED AND AMAZED that waste wood and brush is actually allowed to be BURNED in England. That’s air pollution, that is!

Most suburban areas in the USA banned burning leaves decades ago. It’s hard to imagine that England lets folks burn such huge amounts of waste.

If it wasn’t for that, I was going to suggest you’d had the swine flu.

  2. Think of the carbon footprint! Burning garden waste is allowed in most places, but there can be local statutes that prevent it. Good news that they can’t sell off the land for development but I bet they were spitting feathers when they found out. I worked with a guy who wanted to do that. He was/is a horse’s arse. His neighbour who also worked with us was a really nice guy. He objected to the proposed building and it didn’t go ahead. The schmuck who wanted to sell off his garden was furious and keeps putting in planning applications. The neighbour however has a secret weapon. Seems he has bats in the attic and this trumps any planning laws as they are protected.

Glad you are feeling better btw.

  3. When I was in England I tried some lemsip with decongestant, the most impressive headache followed untill it wore off, never again. You sound like a good old fashoned english flu. Was your ballance iffy? This prime flu season, untill it gets real cold for a month then it sort of gets domant, market towns are really bad as the flu goes round and then goes back to market9so to speak) hope you are mending well, btw paracetamol might well be tylanol in America.

  4. Well, things haven’t felt right for awhile with me either.  I just didn’t feel 100% and it felt kind of stuffy and nasty in the house.  Anyway, it is as I feared, after consulting with a professional, I now know the problem.  There is a dead pig stuck in my chimney. Yes I have the swine flue.  The chimney sweep was traumatized.

  5. So sorry you were sick Peiper - I was meaning to send you a note - but alas my life has descended into my own private hell and I am just emerging. But I did get through that and other than a few nights of sleeplessness and not accomplishing a damn lot, nothing really bad happened. Except I forget to wish you well.

I am not only surprised at the burn - but wtf - don’t you Brits use wood for anything anymore - imagine the fencing, furniture, nick nacks whatever that could have been done with that wood - why even homeless wood boxes instead of cardboard, do the homeless in England use cardboard?!?

Wow creativity and imagination are on the decline over there - not to mention that so many enviro-wacko ‘laws’ were violated by that one burn.

I can take bbqs and out door firepits - but a massive burn - makes me sick every time I am near one. It is not in your head - just like massive mowings (along the highways for example) also turn my stomach.

Nothing is good when overdone - moderation in all things.

  6. Where I live burning refuse is allowed but you must call the Fire Department to find out if it is a “Fire day”.

They monitor the Air pollution and give the OK or nix it.

However you are still allowed to have a “Recreational” Fire.

Just get out there with your Hot Dog on a stick and Torch it up.

  7. Paracetamol is just tylenol - acetaminophen.
