If You Can’t Take The Heat

  1. Those cartoons are the kind of shit that Goebbels and company used to crank out.  Just as vicious, just as facile, and just as noxious.

But remember, Goebbels and company had a master who was pleased with their efforts.  These scrivening punks have masters, too.  And are they displeased at such efforts as these?  Not bloody likely!

Measure the master by his servants, if you please, and take a good look, all of you, at these insights into the shit-filled souls of latterday leftist loonies.  Priceless honesty is on parade here, revolting though it is.

    cool mad

  2. I used those cartoons because they are very strong examples. How many hundred could you find of Bush being drawn as a chimpanzee? Too easy. And there is that one magazine cover about the Obamas. I’ve run across just one truly racist picture of Obama on the net, and I didn’t post it here.

But it isn’t really the cartoons that are the source. Not all smears can be drawn with a pencil. Nor are all smears even smears: lie down with dogs, get up with fleas; a man is known by the company he keeps. So taking a look at that company, or those fleas, is fair play, but is labeled by the left as a smear. Bending the facts a little bit - a good example is the latest one about what Palin spent on her family when Governor, which forgets to mention that not only was such spending allowed, what she spent was under budget - is plain old politics. Bending the facts a lot - “John McCain votes with Bush 90% of the time!!” when Bush doesn’t actually vote AT ALL - is standard bullshit.

My point was that both sides are getting uppity about some pretty minor stuff. Yes, there is some pretty major stuff out on the internet worth getting uppity about, but none of it is “official” and neither side has much control over it. We hope.

John Edwards hides behind his wife when he is even mildly attacked. Considering he was busy screwing around on her with what’s-her-ho, that’s mighty cowardly. But running to the lawyers because somebody said something mean about you by inference? That’s pretty cowardly too.

Until both sides can learn to play nicer they should work on developing thicker skin. Fight the real smears, sure. But get a grip.

People pointing to your political record is not a smear. People deriding you for your dynamic ability to change positions overnight on issues is not racism. Making political hay out of garbage bags full of flags is a great Gotcha Moment, but it is not “questioning your patriotism”. Well, maybe a little. But you were begging for it.

One of the points brought out by my post the other day on Opposing Views dot com was that you can’t trust the “experts” because everyone has an agenda these days. There is just too much data out there, and it takes too much time to hunt it all down and digest it. That’s why smear campaigns work. They don’t have to be true, they only have to be true today. (um, wait, isn’t that the motto of the gossip rags?) Or sound “truthy” enough for the moment. But not every criticism is a smear campaign, and acting like it is only muddies the waters even more. Juvenile projectionism doesn’t help either.

Politics sucks. Is it over yet?
