  1. It’s interesting to me that companies allow web access to virtually anyone even if they don’t need it for their job. The question was rasied in a seminar of professionals I was in and the consensus seemed to be that it was an incentive to work for the company.

  2. I know people that bitch about this “spying”.
    I remind them: It’s the boss’s time. It’s the boss’s machine.
    My employer doesn’t care if somebody sents e-mails or IM’s from work, or even surfs a little. The only restriction is that you do it only on your breaks and you NEVER download anything off the web, without prior permission. The simple rule is that if anything you do might be considered questionable, don’t do it. I think that’s a reasonable policy. Just remember that anything you say in an e-mail or IM from work might be used against you, so if you think your boss is a festering HEM-royd, keep it to yourself.
