  1. Hey Drew - looks what’s heading your way - Yes we did not get the 8” predicted (about 3ish) but we have single digit temps and it’s GONE DOWN 2 degrees since I turned on my computer (about 1.5 hours).

    Enjoy!

Between this, no jobs at all (I can’t even get into Taco Hell - unless I want the store that is robbed every weekend), the taxes and now Direct TV cut out our hockey game when it went into OT (the Wings scored at 1:51 - so about 4+ minutes more of tv time). Our other choices suck, cost worse or are a joke.

We are seriously looking at states # 1 & 3 on our list - Texas & Kentucky. Someone here just needs to find a job.

  2. Dude, we’re freezing our nuts in the ‘merican Heartland. It was below zero Fahrenheit this morn.  The fallen snow squeaks underfoot and you can feel your nose hairs.

  3. I wonder if winter is really any worse now than it was in my childhood?  I think maybe not but because we know the weather everywhere, instantly now, it just seems that way.  I live in Utah and when I was a kid the weather on the East Coast or in Europe was something we read about in the papers a few days later.  In 2011 we live it, live, in real time and full color.  Maybe it seems worse because the world is so much smaller and closer than it was? Or I could be just a blathering old koot with halfhiemers setting in… I dunno.

  4. In my 21 years experience delivering the mail, this winter is mild (so far). We usually get our worst in February… (oops, just jinxed us, didn’t I...oh dear!)

But I’ll admit that the frequency of me slogging through the snowfall and THEN going home to shovel the 100’ driveway is...annoying. Not to mention tiring. The only good part is that the snow has been a ‘dry’ light snow despite being six inches deep. I dread the memories of the heavy ‘wet’ snows that were six inches or more deep.

But I don’t find the temps to be very different. We’re not setting any ‘low’ records here. Typical normal variable winter weather. Forecast to be above freezing next week for a couple of days. Then slogging through snow won’t be the problem, it’ll be the melted and refrozen ice on people’s sidewalks and porch steps.

That’s a not-too-subtle hint folks. Watch for the melting ice dripping on your porch steps and refreezing. Very dangerous. Your mailman can decline to deliver under those conditions. Especially if you do not have secure handrails installed. I’ll slog through snow. Ice is another matter. Your mail isn’t worth me getting seriously injured.
