  1. Maybe the donations are being held off until 2018...when the 50-year seal on MLK’s death is lifted and we can find out for certain if the guy really WAS a Communist! As for myself, I hope he wasn’t.

And while I’m on the subject...if Dr. King were alive today he’d be furious at the NAACP and also at one particular aide of his from way back when.

Y’all know who I’m referring to!

  2. February is Black Awareness month? Hell, I thought every month was Black Awareness month, or is that Black History month?

  3. smirk We started the “Original Pilot Test” (OPT) of Tax-Free HSAs in 7-11 stores in January 1997 when they were called Medical Savings Accounts (MSA).  These 7-11 Franchisees sign a contract that says they must be open 365 days a year 24 hours a day.  But some stores closed on today -- Why?  Because they are afraid to be open and draw the rath of some people in certain neighborhoods.

So let’s all think of those poor 7-11 owners who gotta be feeling good today because everybody should get at least one day a year off.

Hey Macker are you saying, ”He dipped his hands in the doctors blood and then went looking for all the press.  Then he said when you want a leader and minister here I am, and my name is Jess.”

Frank Zappa had a song about the Rymin’ Man that really upset Jessie Jackson.

He called him “OH you naughty Democrat.”

  4. BULLSEYE!! I don’t celebrate MJK day OR Black History Month. Why? Well it’s not because I’m some KKK loving witch-setting aside the fact that the KKK hares Jews anyway. It’s because the above celbrate-EMBRACE- victimhood.
They don’t focus on blacks Achievements-no it’s “You’re still doin’ us wrong.”
    Gimmeee a freakin’ break.
To the ‘perpetual “ black Victims I say:

    1. EVERYONE has been victimized for who they are at one point or another.
Go tell a passionate Irishman that the Potato Famine wasn’t that big of a deal, or a Jew who survived Shoah and lost his entire family that what happened to them pales in comparision to Jim Crow.

    2. Just because you’ve xeperience bad things does’nt mean you can’t succeed. Look at the Jews again-or the laotian boat people that were in my Jr. high. Some of my friends had been on the boat 3 MONTHS before I met them-
yet because they embraced America IMMEDIATELY-they spoke to me in passable english-3 MONTHS after they got off the boat!
    3. Teen pregnancy limits success. period.

    4. I didn’t own slaves- and you never were one. I don’t owe you an apology or reperations -nor does any person alive today- for something we had nothing to do with .
I repeat- EVERYONE has ancestors that were victimized.

    5. If you or yours gets to “cut ahead in line” or be held to lower, easier standards than me and mine because you’re black-well we don’t think of it as “affirmative action” we think of it as government sanctioned racism(notice no “reverse")

    6. Because of my autism I get help from the special needs office at school. What I get is to tape record my classes and possible to an oral rather than written report.
None of the above changes that fact that in order to pass the class I need to know the IDENTICAL material as my fellow students. If I don’t that’s MY fault.
What I’m getting is a “hand up” what A.A. is is a “hand out.” See the difference.
    I didn’t think so.

  5. Your opinion is NOT cynical or even racist. A holiday that is Not for Whites, Hispanics or Asians; IS cynical and racist.
Remember when Arizona said “No way” to this holiday and the Feds threatened to withhold federal highway funds? Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed eliminating some state holidays, they are very expensive, I bet this won’t be one of them.
MLK day is for Blacks. While veterans day is about appreciation for veterans, not for veterans.

    Cynical:
    1. Believing or showing the belief that people are motivated chiefly by base or selfish concerns; skeptical of the motives of others.
    2. Selfishly or callously calculating.
    3. Negative or pessimistic, as from world-weariness.
    4. Expressing jaded or scornful skepticism or negativity: cynical laughter.

    Racist:
    1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
    2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Bastard: (OK maybe you are but I don’t think so.)
    1. A child born out of wedlock.
    2. Something that is of irregular, inferior, or dubious origin.
    3. Slang. A person, especially one who is held to be mean or disagreeable.

  6. O You Who Have Been Fingered!(snicker):
I would say Dr. King would be pissed off at the “Reverend” Jackson for two reasons:

    1) The fact that Jackson boffs his secretary and fathers an out-of-wedlock child.
    2) How Jackson uses Operation PUSH to shake down corporate entities.

  7. #6 Macker
Oh but wait… MLK had more than 1 illicit tryst. But, of course, that was all just an FBI setup.

  8. Since Annoying Little Twirp mentioned it-- you can read David Horowitz’s VERY well-conceived essay on TEN REASONS REPARATIONS ARE A BAD IDEA AND RACIST here

  9. My modest suggestion:  lets take a modest 100 year break from talking about race and see if it doesn’t go away.
I wonder what percentage of racism is same race shit.  For example, my (white) daughter lost a friend in high school because other blacks disapproved of the friend spending so much time with a white girl.
And my son was walking down the street with his Korean wife when a carload of Asians called her a Twinkie.  (yellow on the outside, white on the inside)
My son invited them to enjoy a session of oral-genital contact with him, and noted that they liked sex with their mothers. cheese

  10. I agree with Revandryn, but the inherent problem is simple.  Honor for Washington or Lincoln (for only two examples) cannot be exploited by those who make cheap political gestures in order to appease a rabble.

Posted by Tannenberg    United States   01/17/2005  at  10:39 PM

  11. A couple of personal points.  The day Dr. King was murdered I swore I was never again going to tolerate white racism.
Now I see how Lincoln and Washington came to be regarded as deities, after their deaths.  During his life, racists called him Martin Luther Coon, more radical blacks called him Martin Looser King.  He was a fallible human who became a symbol for great things.  It started with Rosa Parks, a tired woman who refused to give up her seat on the bus to some white asshole. They were ordinary people, to whom God said, “You’re ON!”.

  12. yer not cynical, you’re realistic.

the double-standard we’re subjected to every day is starting to chafe my willie.
