Drew, I am naturally curious to know the name of this wonderful financial institution. I worked for a big bank for a whole 2 months. It was an eye-opening education in how to confiscate as much money as possible (legally, of course) from the account holders.
I use a small credit union. Locally owned, local service. Main office is 40 miles away, but branches in mostly convenient locations. Service with a smile, and I have yet to have any need to complain.
Local Credit Union...good service and I know all the tellers.
The debit card can be used as a credit card without the pin#, just swipe and sign.
Drew I feel your pain!
I don’t have a bank account anymore. Yes, it’s a hassle. The upside is that when there is an error, I don’t get treated as if I’m am a moron or a thief, which is how I have been treated by EVERY bank, EVERY credit institution, and nearly everyone who wants to sell you a service for which you get charged a monthly fee, in my entire adult life. This is a serious upside in my case, as when someone accuses me of thievery my first instinct is to take a baseball bat and beat their skull into a paste.
As someone who has always had an interest in words, imagine how I feel about the modern definition of “customer service.”
The banks charge the store a percentage for credit cards.
When you use a card that can be rang as credit or debit (with PIN) they try to force you to the latter. That way you get charged instead of them. They do this by prompting for your PIN.
You have to hit “cancel” then you’ll get the choice screen. Select “credit” and roll. No pin, no fees.
My bank charges me $1.50 for a debit, nothing for a credit. IOW if I put in my pin it costs me $1.50, if I hit cancel/credit then it costs me nothing…
If the “cancel” thing doesn’t work, show the cashier it’s a credit card and tell them “ring as a credit card, not a debit card.” They know how, if not ask for a manager. They may not want to—as they pay instead of you—but don’t want to lose your business if you know…
HTH…
