  1. I sure the BMEWS member-in-question won’t comment. Just to let anonymous know, I’m now in the 33%.

  3. I have gotten this email a few times - but actually heard the original story during a Bible Study class - so I’m thinking it does have roots in the truth.

I will only say - if you haven’t seen Jesus - Thank God that something terrible hasn’t happened to you. And I’m sorry people being killed, dying or most especially, murdered is a shame but not terrible - check out the death stats for the World once in a while - it happens every single second of every single day - why consider you and yours as immortal?

I qualify my statement because I have always believed that most people think - If you talk to God, you are religious. If God talks to you, you are nuts.

  4. Christopher, it seems a bit un-Christian of you to pounce on this unknown member of our community, given that only half a dozen folks have posting rights. The 3 of us, Mr. Christian should he ever stop by, Severa (miss you sweetie!), and I think one other long lost soul.  This isn’t a public forum; posting is not open to everyone.

Also, other venues may be more suited to “items of religiosity”. In general I try to leave everyone to their own faith and it’s own degree, only chastising the RoP for all the murder and mayhem done in its name.

And the story is a bunch of gooey nonsense. One of the infinite number of sticky ‘feel goods’ that goes around on emails.

  5. Okay. I’ll amend my ‘won’t’ to ‘can’t’.

And yes, it is a sticky feel good. But it felt good to me. Just see the question I posed afterward. And I did post it as an Editorial.

BTW, who is Severa? Not a name I remember. Just curious. Yes, I miss Mr. Christian, who is still probably lurking out there.

Wardmama, God does talk to me. He usually says ‘NO!’ But as for seeing Jesus, well, the bad things in my life didn’t happen when I was a child. I’m sure He was busy comforting other young children who needed it far more than I did. Not that bad things didn’t happen to me as a child, but nothing as horrific as in the post.

The only thing in my life that comes close was when I was ten. Mom and step-Dad had an arguement over the phone. Dad was on the way home. It was so bad that Mom herded my sisters and me into my bedroom. She then loaded Grandpa’s Sweet Sixteen, jacked a round into the chamber, handed it to me and said: “If your step-father comes through this door, shoot him.”

That’s as bad as it got. Dad did come home, we heard the yelling. Didn’t hear the ‘thuds’ which meant he was beating her up and she always fought back. They both would sport bruises the next day when that happened. Mom still won’t talk about that, except to say it was the only time he’d ever threatened us, his step-children. And no, he was never known to be a drunk. Just angry.

Anyway, after a couple of hours of us huddling together and me wondering if I was gonna have to fire, Mom knocked and said “Chris, it’s Mom. I’m coming in.” And she told us things were fine, took the shotgun from me and unloaded it. Thanked me for being ‘man enough’to protect my sisters. At age ten.

That was the worst it ever got. Mom and Dad fought a lot, of course, but never again did Mom think we kids were in danger. They stayed married until he died of cancer in 2003.

Knowing that, maybe y’all understand why this hit me hard.

  6. That was a wonderful story, and believable. Excellent.
