  1. "Conversating”?  Nice word from the #2 HMFIC.  Speaks well of “educators” doesn’t it?

BTW, while you’re boxing his/her ears, may I crotch kick this petty tyrant?

  2. Ah, my friends - you forget - this is a Publik schul - there are RULES to BE FOLLOWED - NO thinking is allowed.  Why, if you start telling people to actually THINK and make INTELLIGENRT decisions, there’s no telling WHAT may happen.  They may actually start trying to teach again, may even begin to realize how much the educashun sysdem is dicking both the teachers AND students - they may even (GASP!!!) start using their BRAINS!  What would happen if THAT occured?

Asshat.  Somone should take the “teachers’ “ tin foil beanie away.

  3. Ah, shit - I hit the send before I reread the post - and I have fat fingers… IntelligenRt - DUH…

  4. T:  No problem; your typos, given the nature of the subject, look natural.  They fit in very well with the nature of your sarcasm, and add to the satire.

All:  Does anyone have the number for this idjit school/school board/teacher?  I think some calls and letters are in order to all involved in this, letting them know that pink slips are in their near future, and to kick-start the employee termination process.
Heck, charge the teacher with assault/battery for forcibly attempting to take the phone, as well as attempted robbery.  No matter if they’re convicted; it’ll help forestall future events of similar nature.

  5. On second thought, don’t press charges, but make it known that charges are being considered.

  6. Thanks to Michelle Malkin (guess I should have checked there first...)

Contact information for Spencer High School, the school involved in this little “incident,” can be found here.

  7. Thanks, Cat.

I was one of those good ones.  But, I’ll tell you, there are some fools in the education system, and none fit the bill more than the administrators.  Administrators in public school systems are people who can’t/couldn’t make it in the ‘real’ world for the most part; people who failed as teachers and took a couple of courses to become principals; or were coaches who wanted more power and cheated on the exams for administration degrees.  Either way, while some administrators are excellent because they love what they do and are not looking for a power/control stroke, most are idiots.

The teacher AND the asst. principal in this case are both to blame.  Considering the time difference, this phone call was probably planned with the mother.  God, what asses.

As for text messaging and cheating - I can assure you that would go on.  The majority of kids think cheating is their right.  The reason I no longer teach is a long story, but it begins with me catching a girl red-handed cheating.  Her parents came in for a conference - not that I insisted on it - the assistant principal did, and the father was so drunk he slid down in his chair and passed out.  It went straight to hell from there when the girl denied the cheating.  *I* had the proof in hand, plus the visual act, but it was up to me to prove it because this little piece of shit denied it.  I didn’t want the conference because, like all the teachers, we knew it was up to us to prove the cheating once the kid denied it.  It wasn’t worth it.  All the kid had to do was keep on denying it.  Think they’d believe the teachers????  NO way.  Even with proof, an excellent reputation, and few, if any complaints to the office, it was my job to get screwed.  The only reason it was reported was I had to report the cheating to the ROTC department when they asked.  They had an honor code...... sheeesh...imagine that.

  8. And this is in a town with a big military base.. they should be a bit more considerate of the military and their families.. Hmm.. maybe the Soldiers that are still on base in Ft. Benning could show up at this school and give them some teaching or something…

  9. I don’t mean to be contentious, Revandryn, but the story indicates the teacher and administrators clearly didn’t believe the student was actually talking to his mother in Iraq. They actually hung up on her.  They were more interested in upholding the school rules so they, in turn, wouldn’t get their butts kicked by central office.

While our universities have serious leftist leanings, our public schools hardly register other than teachers are badgered to join the NEA.

  10. For all the good the NEA is, as far as I am concerned, they may as well be a leftover of the Soviet educational system’s foreign extension program.

    wink

  11. I can vouch for that from personal experience, Tanny.

When a new teacher arrives, members of the local chapters come and put the scare tactics on that newbie to join the NEA/VEA. If you join, and 98% do, your dues are automatically deducted each month.  What they do not tell you is that even if you don’t join and give up a percentage of your pay each month, the NEA/VEA (or whatever state) HAS to, by law, represent you in any school matter whatsoever.

Over a 30 year career, those dues can amount to close to $15,000.  98% of teachers never use the NEA, and those who seek them out for help are often discouraged from moving forward.

That amounts to a lot of jack for the educational system.... wonder what happens to it?

  12. Well, Phoenix, if I did it, I’d probably be arrested for grand theft.

    wink

  13. Revandryn,

Thank you.  No, I didn’t feel my toes stepped on at all.  We agree in all instances - as I noted, the kid probably planned the call as that was the only time he could connect with his mom.  And yes, all the administrators had to do was s t o p t a k e a breath and listen to what this poor kid was trying to say.

Any decent human would have given him a private place to talk to his mom.

My only problem was making this into a liberal/conservative issue.  I can flout the leftist leanings of universities all day, but my experience with the public school systems shows that there is so much more utter crap to put up with that political leaning is just chaff in the wind.

Thank you for your thoughtful response.

  14. Revandryn,

I forgot.  I don’t know about your state, but in my state, students, once they enter the building, have no ‘rights’.  Zip.  Zero.

As far as a case for ‘assault’, I wouldn’t bet on that moving forward.  The kid was breaking a written rule.  The entire administrative juggernaut of that district will stand behind that principal.

It is, however, an extremely sad story for the student.

  15. Yep.. and it is compounded by the fact that this is the only parent this kid has left.. His dad died when he was 5.... so he’s stuck staying with a guardian and his mom in Iraq.. and no you’re right this is not a left/right issue.. It’s a common sense issue.. On a forum I frequent a Teacher of the Liberal Persuasion agreed with me that this shouldn’t have taken place...there’s times to overlook “the rules” especially when letting him talk to his mom didnt harm anybody else and I’m sure all or most of the other students would understand the reasoning why it was overlooked in this case, if they had let him talk to his mom.. so he used profanity after they grabbed the phone and hung up on his mom.. I doubt many in the same situation would be able to be calm…
