Lack of a serving mission will not mean the end of Hubble it will simply mean that one of 4 gyros that stabilize it will not be replaced. Engineers have already made plans to operate it even if another gyro fails. Plus the fact that work on the next ST which will have many times more resolution has been underway for some time.
