Skipper, you forgot the other two keys to this little travesty of the fleecing of Americans -
1) the Dems after 9/11 (which they also try along with their eager media outlets to blame on the Repubs/Administration/President Bush) put FEMA which wasn’t doing too badly UNDER Homeland Security which has become an almost useless waste of billions of American dollars - wait, another great Democratic idea/solution to steal tax dollars (both Homeland Sec & FEMA under it) . . . which lead to this stupidity coupled with . . .2) it all came about because the Administration/Repubs/America is racist [perhaps proven by the fact that these ‘chocolate’ people don’t want to move back to the area because it would be into a trailer until their homes (i.e. the projects) are rebuilt, or proven by the fact that the ‘chocolate’ people prefer to live in hotels (at taxpayers expense for how much longer than NORMAL - what 3 or 4 extensions) and walla proven by the fact that ‘chocolate’ people spent the money on crap and personal pleasures rather than on rebuilding their lives . . . and of course how many of these ‘chocolate’ people are going to require 100% funding as they have ‘chosen’ not to have personal insurance on a damn thing] oops, sorry we are supposed to feel badly as they ‘lost’ everything?
And we who are struggling under the increased taxes to pay for this crap are supposed to care WHY?????????
I think I will write to my Representatives and request that other than paying for the military, defense and VA; school infrastructure and teacher salaries; and SSI - everything else must be held until coruption and illegals are feretted out of the systems and the systems fixed.
I can dream can’t I. I know that nothing will be done. Oh well.
Looks like you are adopting some of the socialist garbage that we have had inflicted upon us for decades in Britain. Over here there are now three generations of deadbeats. Was it Gerald Ford that said “If you pay people to be poor you will never run out of poor peeole?” It was one of your Presidents and made a lot of sense. This stuff is so outrageous you couldn’t make it up, but sadly most people here and I assume in the US have the memory span of a fly. The media will soon bury this story and move onto something else.
I used to believe that civilised countries should have a safety net and I still think we have an onus to protect the vulnerable, but why we persist in allowing deadbeats to live off our taxes just baffles me. In Britain the state in some parts of the country now “employs” 70% of the adult population. What this translates into is the rest of us poor slobs who actually work for a living having to pay out increasing amounts of tax. This really gets my blood to boiling point.
Personally I think they should audit every one of these losers and see where the money was spent and if it has been misappropriated they should hound them and put them on work farms till it’s paid off.

Good idea, but for the fact that if you put all the deadbeats to work on farms, the illegals, um er,(sorry for the non-pc slip-up there), the ‘undocumented workers’ would be displaced! Those people NEED jobs to feed their families back in Meh-he-co. What about them! Besides, everyone prospers when the poor blow our tax money on hookers and booze.

Yeah Skipper I just heard some guy on the radio say that since the money was SPENT it was a boost to the economy and therefore this was a non issue. It is a moral issue - for true needs and necessities Americans were willing to provide above and beyond. . . but for crap - buy it or steal it on your own time and dime - not mine
Well damn it is an issue, until all this corruption (Jefferson and his frozen assets), this ‘chocolate’ money scam, illegals not to mention all the fat/outashape/lazy whinners who manage to get handicap placards - we who are working hard for a living, paying our bills and obeying the law are forced into paying more and more and more taxes for all the garbage and non producers.
Let these people truly embrace their God Darwin - it is survival of the fitest, not the laziest, not the lyingist, not the criminalist - notice how things when turned around make them cringe in their elitist shoes?
I keep hoping that in Nov and in 2008 - those of us with brains finally shut them up for good. . .

I’ve never really understood this whole “handout” program for those folks ‘displaced’ folks from New Orleans. Same with government benefits to the able-bodied poor. C’mon, back in the Depression-era didn’t the U.S. have work programs to help people “make it” and “get by” until their situation got better.
But I suppose throwing money at a problem (ahem - money that doesn’t belong specifically to those in the administration) is easier than trying to fix the problem. I suppose thats why “handouts” are so popular nowadays rather than the “hand-up.”
Somebody help me here, I’m really having trouble wrapping my mind around these headlines.
Some of the “aid recepients” chose to misrepresent themselves so that they could get money they weren’t entitled to. How is that FEMA’s fault?? They’re doing their damndest to get money to the actual victims, and there was already mainstream media screaming about all the red-tape delays. Now the same mainstream media is blaming them for not checking closely enough. OK...............(?)
Couldn’t actually make it seem as though the fraud artists were the ones at fault. That would be “blaming the victims”, wouldn’t it.

The Guy in Virginia was just damn stupid(unless he got smart and moved leaving no Forwarding address) Reports are that he claimed for so much and the 1 address he listed to get his money was the same address he had been listed as living at for the past 5 years..
